October 30, 200916 yr I never said coaches don't cheat. That's what makes this so bad IMO. He was implying cheating. The only problem was he completely made something up to do it. He does cause controversy. I've rarely if ever commented on Tipton. I almost never read an article of his. If a players mother calls him out for flat out lying that isn't controversy. It's bull. He should be fired. He should be punished for fabricating the story to add flavor like he did, I totally agree. The sad thing is he probably won't. Just remember with newspapers. They are dying by the day, and if it bleeds it reads. He just got caught on this one.
October 30, 200916 yr Honestly, there is no reason to even talk about PPats new vehicle, and why even mention the fact if he's not even in possession?
October 30, 200916 yr Honestly, there is no reason to even talk about PPats new vehicle, and why even mention the fact if he's not even in possession? Especially when there's a very heartwarming & positive story on Patterson (his relationship with the sick little girl) that I don't think has been covered at all by Tipton. I've looked through his archives and haven't found anything.

October 30, 200916 yr It isn't like the new truck is a big secret. Heck, Patrick Patterson discussed it early in the story, and his comments helped tie the story together. My guess is that Tipton's mistake was assuming he had driven the actual vehicle to the game that night. The conspiracy theories abound ... That is beside the point. It's fairly evident that Tipton made up an entire story of PPat driving the truck to the game and then leaving in said truck. This should raise red flags all over the place!
October 30, 200916 yr The article has changed, but it has changed drastically. I've gotta admire the passion of the fans who are upset, but COOOOOOOMEEEEE OOOOOOONNNN
October 30, 200916 yr The article has changed, but it has changed drastically. I've gotta admire the passion of the fans who are upset, but COOOOOOOMEEEEE OOOOOOONNNN To the best of my recollection I've never bashed Tipton. I've always thought he was a hack trying to sell papers. This whole fiasco makes it more than a hack trying to sell papers. If he would have drove the new car to the game what would the point have been to have that in his article? Was it not to imply wrongdoing by someone? Now that we know he completely made up the story we know it was to imply wrongdoing. Just b/c you weren't a believer at first doesn't mean this isn't an issue. The Tipton bashing to me was a little over the top. Not anymore. For years he's done everything he could to shine a negative light on the basketball program. Now we know he even makes up stories to help shine that light. If that isn't somehting to be upset about what is? Edited October 30, 200916 yr by SSC

October 30, 200916 yr The article has changed, but it has changed drastically. I've gotta admire the passion of the fans who are upset, but COOOOOOOMEEEEE OOOOOOONNNN So what excuse do you have for the part of the story that he completely made up? Jerry's a newspaper writer, he's supposed to report facts.
October 30, 200916 yr Author I agree 100%. I thought for awhile Wireman was taking it a little far, but he knew what he was talking about. I agree that I took it a little far. I tend to get carried away when I feel passionately about something and it has really bothered me how much Tipton has alluded to wrong-doing wtih the UK program and players. I apologize to everyone for taking it too far, but I am happy that Tipton has helped things out by exposing himself as a fraud.

October 30, 200916 yr Author http://ukbasketball.bloginky.com/2009/10/29/clarification-pattersons-new-truck-in-huntington/ Thanks for posting that, but I've saw that bit of garbage already (apology? explanation for lying?). There is supposed to be an apology from the H-L editors in today's paper.
October 30, 200916 yr UK needs to revoke Tipton's press credentials as those are a priviledge and not a right just because you work for a media outlet. I work for a media outlet and know that they tell you that they can be taken away from you if you deserve to have them taken away...especially for something as stupid as what Tipton done with the Patterson story.
October 30, 200916 yr The article has changed, but it has changed drastically. I've gotta admire the passion of the fans who are upset, but COOOOOOOMEEEEE OOOOOOONNNN The first thing a person thinks reading the article is how did Patterson get that nice of a truck? It makes me think that Tipton is wondering the same thing and wanted the public to know about him having a new truck (just like he wanted everyone to know that Rondo was driving a vehicle owned by Derek Anderson). But the thing that is really bad is he was inaccurate, which is unacceptable if it is something he does more than once in a blue moon.
