Let's see. There have been 11 BCS Championship games, 5 of which have been won by SEC schools. I'm just saying.

In the last two weeks I've gotten (with the help of a direct tv system) to watch Arizona, Stanford, and Oregon St., as well as South Carolina, Georgia, and Auburn. The teams in the middle of the Pac-10 really look like tough, tough outs, and the teams in the middle of the SEC just don't really look all that good.

 

At the very top, the SEC is very strong, but as you make your way down through the list, I would just see the Pac-10 winning more of those games head-to-head.

 

Its just an opinion, and I have no more evidence to go on than just my eyes watching the ballgames. The Pac-10 teams just look a little more "complete" this year.

 

Also, a lot of very young, very talented QB's in the Pac-10.

 

Just curious, but who did you watch Arizona, Stanford & Oregon St. play against?

I think it's a no brainer. SEC isn't as good as it's been past years. It's no question the best year in year out IMO. Even in a down year you can make a legit argument that at least the top 2 teams in the nation are SEC teams...not bad for a down year. Before people try to start downplaying the SEC look at this:

1. Fla is Fla with Myer they are always going to be around the top.

2. Bama has Saban and will always be around the top with him.

3. LSU has been a top 10 team most of the time at least while Miles has been there.

4. Geo is solid year in year out and I think most expected them to struggle this year.

5. Tenn put together as good of a recruiting staff as you will find. They are on the up and up.

 

Next level:

6. Ole Miss Nutt is building something there.

7. Arkansas I wouldn't want my son playing for Petrino but there is no doubt when he gets his players he is going to put up numbers.

8. Auburn should put up numbers with Mazlahan on board there question is how long.

9. KY has not only put together a string of bowl runs but wins in those bowl games over teams like FSU+Clemson.

 

Bottom feeders are even getting better. Vandy is a lot better than they use to be back in the day.

 

ZERO doubt in my mind year in year out it's the best confrence in football. It's down but not terrible. Last week they had the #1 and #2 team in the country!

Not a big deal...he can support his story and so on.

 

The thing about the SEC is that it is such a physical football conference. You see a fair amount of attrition of players from game to game through injury and what not...week in and week out it is a battle.

You may get a breather every now and again, but it is a physical physical league.

The PAC 10 teams are predicated on offense and the QB's in that league tend to throw up inflated numbers against bad defenses.

The SEC is going through a cycle of young QB's....

To me an big time SEC game is a 14-10 type game...physical and so forth.

Tennessee's defense is really good, but Crompton has been bad for much of the year.

Again regarding Oregon State and USC, that was a three touchdown game and OSU never had the ball for a chance to win.

I agree overall it is down but that is primarily due to the QB play....Tebow isnt the same.

Its still the best conference top to bottom, IMO...but the PAC 10 is right there.

 

I agree. The SEC schools have a hard time scoring big points against others really good SEC defenses. Alabama had no problems against VT. The players in the SEC are so fast and so good it's just a batlle most games to get a win. Then the teams get 2-5 weeks off and go to a bowl game and they're playing good teams, but for the most part they've played teams just as good or better than them for the last 8 games. I think the SEC has been really lucky lately to not play USC in a title game. It's not that the SEC schools couldn't beat USC. It's just USC is the school that has the athletes and speed to match them. Now that the rest of the P10 schools are catching up w/ USC they are the next best conference.

I think the officials made the correct call. I think the replay clearly showed that it shouldn't have been a safety.

The SEC isn't as far ahead as it normally is, but it is still far and away the best.

 

Pac 10- USC lost to a team with a losing record, Oregon got thumped at Boise State, Cal turned out to not be so great this season.

 

Big 12- Oklahoma is hurting because of injuries but hey it is what it is, Texas Tech is terrible again this year, Oklahoma State lost to Houston, the Big 12 north has been a joke for a few years now.

 

ACC-Maryland and Virginia both lost to FCS schools. Florida States win over BYU looks good but they haven't done anything else all season. The top 2 or 3 teams here are good but beyond that it's a complete waste land at the bottom. Duke won consecutive conference games against bottom teams this year, what does that tell you. Also UNC is not nearly as good as anyone expected.

 

Big 10- Until they earn some big out of conference wins can't argue for them.

 

Big East- Cincinnati is nice, but not sold on anyone else. WVU lost to the 5th best team in the SEC West in Auburn and they are considered at least 3rd in the Big East right now, what does that tell you.

 

 

I agree. I still think the SEC is top to bottom the best conference, but the gap is not what it was last year. PAC 10 may be a little better, primarily thanks to the way Oregon is playing. The Big East is okay with UC being far and away the best team there (BK may be the COY this season). The Big 10? Nah. The Big 12 is down a little bit. The ACC is improved with Miami stepping its game up.

It might be a tiny stretch to suggest that the safety that wasn't would have lead to a Crimson Tide loss. :idunno:

 

'Bama has just been winning ugly in recent weeks and people don't like for the top teams in the nation to win ugly. They want to see suffocating domination. McElroy has been struggling and its really hurt 'Bama's production. They need him to get it turned around. Everything else is in place.

PAPA, 5Wide speaks the truth, what about my comment where we had back to back games with almost 10 penalties. I thought you were going to mention the wrong Deadball helmet caper, nice try on the safety, but they reviewed it and I was there with a great view and it was the right call.

I think this is more of a case of college football, as a whole, being down. Not a great team out there this year.
