I guess my thought process on this is simple to me, but simply isn't shared by the masses. Iowa has three BAD wins. When relating it to the system in place, I think it is a joke they get a pass for being awful against average at best teams while UC has dominated the same...

 

Honestly though, it also hurts that you are a UC supporter. Your views are going to slant towards UC and that is fine, but it is also the truth. JMO. IF UC beats Pitt and WVU I'll have no problem with them jumping Iowa. It's not the quality of a win that matters in the long run, it's just the fact that a team got the win as well. Most voters or fans, haven't watched every game for UC and Iowa. Honestly, I think UC is better, but I think if Iowa goes undefeated they are more deserving because I think the Big 10 is a better conference, and they will have beaten the Conference's two heavy weights on the road. Neither gets in the title most likely, but I think that I'm more impressed with both of them than I am with Texas. But, I also think TCU would beat UC or Iowa.

Did you watch that whole game? I never said UC blew them out, but they were in control from start to finish in a place that is VERY tough to win. The D held Oregon St to a season low in points and bottled up the returning PAC 10 offensive player of the year in the process. I'll put that win on par with beating a Penn State team that Iowa has seemed to own at either location lately and have no problem doing so...

The "at one time" part of the argument is what is bogus to me. Rutgers was picked to win the Big East by many of the people that made PSU the #5 team "at one time". The same people had Oregon St and USF ranked when UC came to their place and won.

The "at one time" part of the argument is what is bogus to me. Rutgers was picked to win the Big East by many of the people that made PSU the #5 team "at one time". The same people had Oregon St and USF ranked when UC came to their place and won.

Believe me, I am not trying to discount what UC has accomplished this season. What Brian Kelly has done is amazing.

 

Is Washington really that bad of a team?

Is UC going to end up this years Utah? They play in a much stronger conference than did Utah, but it looks very likely that IF UC goes undefeated it's still very unlikely that they'll be playing in the BCS National Title Game.

UC has been awesome this season but games with WVU, Pitt and Illinois are still on their schedule. Pitt and WVU have to be strong down the stretch to help the Cats, I for one will wait to see how it all shakes down before I compare UC and Iowa or anyone else for that matter.

I really think that UC would roll Iowa, they just lost a huge contributor in their RB, and they don't possess to keep up with the fast paced Bearcats' scheme.

I would say I don't see much difference in wins at either other than the media love for one over the other. The only reason Oregon State gets any run at all is because they beat USC the last two times they visited Corvallis. I'd take the Rogers brothers and Canfield over anything Gramps has on offense in Happy Valley.

 

And yes Washington is a bad team. They are 3-5 in late October. If we count them as good, a lot of the UC opponents are back in the mix in terms of SOS...

I honestly can't believe we are even comparing the two. I am not a UC fan, but I think UC would win rather easily against Iowa. Honestly I think if Iowa played UC's schedule, that Iowa wouldn't be undefeated. While UC would still be undefeated with the same schedule Iowa played, but probably doing so even more impressively.

I love my Wolverines and the big ten. But I really don't think Iowa's overall schedule is any better than UCs. Iowa struggled with my Michigan team who has lost 3 conference games. Penn State is the best opponent Iowa has faced and I'm not sure they could beat Oregon State. Alot of the Big Ten teams have the ability to be good. But they're all very inconsistant. The BCS is just a flawed system. Someone is always getting left out. Look at Boise and TCU. Chances are even if they both go undefeated only one will get into a BCS bowl. Wouldn't that mean one teams season was over before it even started? You could say they need to make a tougher schedule. But alot of top schools won't schedule a team like that because it's a lose lose situation for them. If they win everyone just says I thought they were overrated anyway. If they lose it basically puts them out of the National Title hunt. One example bieng Oregon/Boise this year.

 

Sorry I realize most of that didn't have anything to do with UC/Iowa. I just had to rant about the BCS because of things like this.

Why does almost everyone on here bash the Big 10 during bowl season, but defend the Big 10 in this argument? What in the world has Penn St or Ohio St. done to be considered good? UC has played at a Pac 10 school that beats USC every two years, they play a Big 10 school, they played a Fresno team that's decent, and they played a rivalry game against Miami OH. Iowa had to block two FG's to beat one of the worst teams in the country at home. South Florida was getting some pub at the time that UC went to their house on a packed nationally televised Thursday night game and ran them out of the stadium w/ their backup QB. I'm not sure who would win if Iowa and UC played, but Iowa's resume isn't nearly as strong as people say.

 

My dream scenario is Florida or Bama getting beat by less than 3 on the road. Whoever loses that game wins the SEC title game 7-6. USC going down by 3 or less this week and Texas getting beat in OT this week. TCU/Boise/UC/Iowa all going undefeated. It won't happen, but if it does maybe something will change for the best in college football. Boise absolutely dominated Oregon. The score was way closer than the game. If Oregon jumps them it has to be a good thing in the messed up world of the BCS.

I've had enough of the Big 11 in the BCS Championship game. Honestly, who wants to watch that again.

Exactly. There shouldn't be polls in College Football until mid October at the earliest. In every other sport the champion is decided by who wins the tournament so polls don't matter. In football, and only at one level, the TWO participants in the championship game are decided by polls and computers. Why do Texas, Florida, and Alabama get rewarded for having a good year last year? Alabama's win they can hang their hat on is from week one.
