If I had to nitpick with Dale the only thing I questioned was leaving Roller out there late in the game when it appeared every other position has subs. Not sure it was worth the risk.

You don't seriously mean that you don't understand why coaches don't disclose injuries and discuss how that affects starting position assignments? It's smart coaching. And if the coach doesn't want that info out there, then the fans of the program, if they have the info, should keep it to themselves. You can find out on Friday if Bardo plays, what position he'll play. It won't kill you to wait.

I seriously believe that there were some CovCath fans that may have bought into and believed the "coach speak" in Park Hills that Coach Wirth was using with his players and that they were going to win. When that didn't happen, my guess is that some of the fans were rather disappointed, irritated and testy. Can't say if TOG fits in that category or not. If so, that might explain the inaccurate running up the score comment.

Nice try. So the football team lost a game...big deal. In the grand scheme, Saturday's game has so little to do with The Spirit we have at Cov Cath. Try checking things out at some of their Christian Service projects, or on one of their senior retreats, or even during Spirit Week at Cov Cath....then you might start to understand a little.

Was not surprised by the score at all after seeing HHS play twice this season but I wasn't at all happy with the lack of yardage gained by the CovCath "O".

 

To their credit, the "D" played a rather good game. Now I understand that I will get some who will say but CovCath gave up 36 points, but when you consider how long the CovCath "D" was on the field and where the HHS "O" started at time after time, I was impressed with the CovCath "D".

 

As far as this HHS team being the best or one of the best ever (that I have seen and I have seen a lot of HHS teams), I can honestly tell you no!

 

The "D" is outstanding and maybe one of the best ever, but the "O"? No way! You don't fumble four times and twice at the goaline, get three PF, and have to kick two FG's and call yourself the best of all time. Dale wanted to run up the score as much as possible as he always does against CovCath (HHS fans you know that is true) but couldn't, so no this is not one of the best HHS team ever.

 

Good luck HHS fans but you really won't need it this season but after watching the CovCath Frosh, and the two CovCath middle school teams with the speed and talent they have, well....... :clap::clap::thumb:

 

Man TOG, you are a tough one to please. Birds rack up about 500 yds on O and only have to punt once the entire game. And the O causes you to think the team isn't one of the best ever? Yes the fumbles display a problem, but that's a problem that can be fixed with some drills and better concentration. But the actual production shows that the Highlands O is very, very talented. If the Birds meet CovCath again, I guess the Highlands O players are going to have to score more than 61 to get the appropriate props from TOG.

 

Not fully understanding TOG's comments about CovCath's D playing a pretty good game either. Yes they were on the field a lot. Of course if you have a good D you force the other team to go three and out a lot and get off the field. Did CovCath's D force Highlands O to go three and out more than once? I'll have to check the drive chart but from what I recall the only team that stopped Highlands O was Highlands O. In light of the fact that we played the game with a sophomore QB, that looked excellent particularly in light of the pressure pack atmosphere of this rivalry game and in light of the fact that Collinsworth, Schlosser and perhaps other came into the game ill, I think the O did a fantastic job. Am I happy about the fumbles? Not one darned bit. But considering that CovCath had to enter the game with a game plan dedicated to stopping the run in order to force Towles to pass, Highlands did a great job running the ball against a D dedicated to stopping the run. As I believe a CovCath fan mentioned, Highlands whipped CovCath's front 7. If CovCath has a pretty good D as TOG postulates, I'd think it would take an even better O line and set of running backs to man handle the front 7 the way the Birds did (particularly with some of them sick). But hey, what do I know about O line play?

 

But at least TOG and I agree about Highlands D. It was absolutely superb lead by the players mentioned previously by the other posters.

 

Special team play was very, very good also. CovCath had previously had great success returning kickoffs. I think our kick off coverage was exceptional and really limited the returns by CovCath. Bruns (#42) did a great job. Weinel did a nice job kicking off and made a nice field goal. Hogue's one punt was a beauty. Just an all around good day for the special teams.

 

 

Great job Birds. We have some things to work on (hint: ball stripping drills). Let's get ready for Scott and then Ryle; finish the regular season undefeated, and then take the playoff games one at a time on our way to BG. :thumb:

Towles' 30 yrd gallop was awesome to watch. That kid is tough and not afraid to lead this group and with the way the line is blocking he should have a field day next week against Scott. He may even want to bring a novel with him and read a chapter or two while dropping back. LOL

As I said previously I'm sure the CCH boys are stunned. However, they're still heading in the right direction. Fans get upset and lash out but lets just keep in mind that the staff is still implementing their formations and lets remember that HHS is pretty darn good.

 

I was disappointed briefly but stepping back I'm still positive about the direction. We'll beat Dixie. Mark it down.

And what didn't they see in the first 3.5 quarters? The kid is such a good player that it doesnt take very long to see it. He almost split one of the CCH receivers in half on a screen pass.

 

Why was CCH trying to use screen passes anyway ? If they watched film of the Cincy St.X -HHS game ,they should have known they weren't going to work. X used screens all night long and it got them nowhere.

I'm far from an expert on offensive gameplanning so I can't answer that. It is , though, part of the spread offense. I don't remember X running any flanker or bubble screens. Regardless, HHS D is so fast that it does make it difficult. However, sometimes plays are run to see how a team reacts and also to set up something else.

 

So, I won't question the playcalling at all. It still comes down to execution.
