Murray 82 Fulton City 6

Featured Replies

I think it was 35 in the first quarter. I know Fulton City isnt very good. Because I dont know any details from the game, I wont accuse anyone of running up the score. I'll just wait to see an account of the game before passing judgement.

I love how people automatically assume a team was "running it up" when a score looks like this. Maybe the team that lost REALLY is that that terrible...

Off this topic, but Hancock put 80 up as well...there comes a point when you have to take SOME responsibility as a winning coach and do what it takes not to score...even with freshman.

Hornets put up 28 in the first quarter, and led 48-20 at halftime.

Fort Knox did score twice to cut it to 48-36, but Hancock County was just too much. There's not much a coach can do when his kids are breaking tackles and finding holes that aren't supposed to be there.

That's what happened to Fort Knox. They had a few miscues on defense and special teams that led to the score being what it was.

My understanding is that Murray led 62-6 at halftime.

I would have trouble believing that Murray coach Steve Duncan would run up the score on Fulton City, a school with which the Tigers have a long rivalry.

Murray recovered two onsides kicks in the first quarter on their way to 41 points. Up 62-6 at halftime, I guess Murray's coach wanted to make sure it didn't slip away by letting the first team march down and score in the third quarter. Stay classy Murray.

Onside kicks while scoring 41 points in the 1st sure seems like running the score up.

Maybe Murray’s coach wanted to practice his onsides kicking game before they actually needed to use it.

If it is in the first half and Murray or whomever is able to recover onside kicks, there is absolutely no harm in doing so. Onside kicks are low percentage plays normally calculated beforehand. Maybe there was something Murray saw on film they could exploit, and they did so?

The coach said it was not their intent to score that many points. The final score came about when a Fulton City player fumbled a kick return and a Murray player returned it for a score. I guess the JV player should have just taken a knee?

Fulton City is not good at all.

I would have to have more details to say whether this was truly running it up or Fulton is just that bad. BUT if the first team went back in for the 3rd quarter up 62-6 as posted earlier, that is not good.

Either way that is a painful score to lose by. Double Ouch!!!

Yes, it is a painful score.

Having seen them, Fulton City is that bad. They have lost by 51 points, 50, and 76 points in there games. All of which could have been a lot worse than what they were.

Murray was not at full strength for the game. Having to play their backup QB and at a few other positions were not healthy.

Most coaches want to start the second half with their first team on the field. If Murray got those guys out of there after the first series, as I assume they did, I have no problem with that.

What about the three onsides kicks in the first quarter (if WestKy's info is correct) or the deep routes thrown in the second half (as someone who was there told me)?

The bottom line is, ask 30 people to define the parameters of running up the score and you will get 30 answers.

The number 80 always is a defining number for some goofy reason. If the score would have been 79-6, this thread would not be receiving any attention despite only being 3 more points. Yet if it were 82-14, it would be receiving about the same amount of attention as it is getting now. Funny how our mind works sometimes.

Many teams could score 80 points on several occasions against Fulton City, Fulton County, and Ballard Memorial over the last decade...

I too think that if Fulton can't recover an onside kick in the first half, and Murray doesn't play starters much into the second half, they can't do much else to stop from scoring. Asking a team to NOT score I have always had a problem with...
