Palin and her "Death Panel"

Per the article..

The only difference between the 2003 provision and the infamous Section 1233 that threatens the very future and moral sanctity of the Republic is that the first applied only to terminally ill patients. Section 1233 would expand funding so that people could voluntarily receive counseling before they become terminally ill.

Darn them!!! Do they have no soul?

Of course, Palin couldn't understand that. She couldn't get past a 4 digit number.

How, one you are terminally ill which I take to mean someone has said you have X months/days to live. The other you are NOT terminally ill and can get counseling on euthanasia.

Seems like a pretty big difference. You are not getting ready to die but we want to counsel you on physician-assisted suicide.

Since when is consulting with a physician about living wills and other end of life circumstances euthanasia?? Thats a bold logical leap and a scare tactic talking point of opponets of reform that has been debunked up one side and down the other.

Question: How many on here have a "living will" and/or a parent with one? Do you have orders of "not to resucitate?"

I too don't like the idea of "euthenasia" but the "do not resucitate" ideas are very good IMO.

Does anyone have a problem with that kind of clause for moral reasons? Is it okay to "allow" someone to die?

My wife and I both have living wills with DNR order. My parents also have the same.

I thought suicide and dr. assisted suicide were illegal?

Only in two states, and it is rarely prosecuted.

I thought that was what the discussion was about.

And that is the problem. A bunch of know nothings decendents make outlandish charges and otherwise reasonable people pick up on it until it spreads like wildfire. Thre are good arguments for and against health care reform. Allowing the doctors that provide advice regarding living wills and health care alternatives to get paid for their services is not a reason to be against reform. If that is the best that the know nothings can come up with, maybe they don't have good arguments against reform.

It's my understanding that part of that end of life counseling will be assisted suicide. This becomes a very slippery slop and to some is a door to worse.

I'm wondering what happened to all those people who protested loudly against the government inserting itself into the Terry Schiavo case. Seems that many who were against it then want to institutionalize it now.

I don't follow. How is the govt "inserting" itself?

I have no problem with someone that decides to have the plug pulled instead of existing on life support.

My fear is this legislation will encourage those that are terminal, or too expensive to keep alive, to agree to this due to economics.

It does not say end of life options. The counseling sessions, as outlined by the actual bill text, provide information on living wills, financial services, and end of life services, aka Hospice. I guess you could read euthanasia into that, but last I checked, that is still considered murder in this country.

I don't like this bill, but let's see it for what it is, a monstrous bureaucratic nightmare that will provide less care and drive this country in to bankruptcy. The scare tactic from both sides are getting ridiculous.

Please read the bill.

Please read the bill.

I did. Thanks.
