August 20, 200917 yr In all my 48 years I have never seen a normal woman captivate so many people. How someone like Sarah Palin could have such hateful enemies is beyond me, but she has single handily infatuated her adversaries (liberal democrats) across the country. My personal opinion is that she is a woman that does not subscribe to the liberal woman opinions and falls in line with all of the "supposed" female positions on things OR she has the contrary opinions but just does not remain quiet about them. Either way, they do hate her.

Either way, they do hate her. There are some, I'm sure, that dislike her for the reasons you describe. But the primary reason she inspires such ridicule and criticism is because she's a demagogue. That was the only thing she was good at during the campaign, aside from playing a victim, and she was utilized as the pit bull because the base loved it. She has done nothing to change that course since the election.

I think this is the second time I've laid this out on here. From dictionary.com: –noun 1. a person, esp. an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people.

August 20, 200917 yr Author Does this not apply to Obama? I guess it would depend on your view of his attempt to play to the prejudices and fears of the populace.
August 21, 200917 yr Does this not apply to Obama? Of course not, he was elected due to his extensive political experience.

August 21, 200917 yr Does this not apply to Obama?Emotions and passions, perhaps? Prejudices, no. I also associate demagoguery with fearmongering, as True Blue and Gold mentioned, even though the dictionary doesn't go in that direction.

August 21, 200917 yr Author You could argue that President Bush was a demagogue. A new book by Tom Ridge is coming out saying that he and his administration (read: Cheney) used the terror threat scale for political purposes. I believe I read/heard that they raised it right before the 2004 election in the hope that the "strong military" candidate would keep us safe.

It seemed like we never heard much about the terror scale after the 2004 election.
