2008 Stats: 1771 Rushing Yards, 27 Rushing TDs / 1698 Passing Yards, 22 Passing TDs

 

Not to take anything away from the Bluebird QB, but there is proof of ability listed above for Antonio Andrews. The Bluebird QB apparently hasn't started a big boy game and only has one TD credit in his varsity career. Don't know how that compares to Andrews and 49 combined TDs last season coupled with 3,469 yards of total offense.

 

Is the NKY hyperbole getting a little out of control?

A very uncharacteristic inept Covington Catholic offense put up 38 points on them last year. Why wouldn’t a junior putting up those kinds of numbers in “Big Boy” games be getting a lot more looks? Yes, they gave up 38 to CovCath. They also beat 2 state finalists, so, they were "OK" last year. The post before mine questioned the competition that he played. I simply stated that when he played a top 20 team in NewCath, he had a huge game statistically. If you read any of my previous posts, or those following the one you are referring to you, you will also see that I said that he is not a DI QB, but a DI athlete. Why is not getting more looks is beyond me. It may very well be where he is playing at. If he's in Louisville, Cincinnati, or Indy, he would be getting a lot of interest. I do know that.

No need to knock Andrews here. Give the kid the credit he has earned with two state championships. To win a state championship on any level you have to beat good teams. He is not a drop back passer but he is one of the best QB's in Kentucky this year.

Statewide power rankings, can't remember which one. It was to show that Andrews played very well against the best competition that he faced last year.

I understand your opinion based on the facts above. I have not been one of those same folks on the site last year. I will be interested if your opinion changes and you opt to retract the statement at the end of the year. The finest quality about Highlands and the program is that the kids do whatever it takes to be successful. If that means a running back the previous year returns to play line in order for the team to have success they do it. IMO it shows the type of boy Bardo is to not make waves, play within the system and the offers still will come. I am a transplant and have an outsider perspective and trust me he has shown that type of talent in practice all through 7 on 7. He is the package size, speed, arm strength and a good student the offers will flood in shortly...and it sure helps that he has a solid supporting cast. We hope that you come out soon and see for yourself.

I don't think it's just athlete's at Highlands that "do whatever it takes to be successful". Proving yourself is what gets you noticed, and I'm not talking about 7 on 7 drills. Until Bardo or any player performs to the preachings in an 11 on 11 atmosphere for a full season, I would reserve "high praise" about them, especially with high school kids. We spend too much time saying "Booby can do this and Billy can do that". Let the on field performance do the speaking and then we can be proud and hope for the best at the next level. Humble Opinion

Very well said. If in fact he was better than Guidugli last year, why wasn't he on the field? I've never heard of a coach (especially one with several state titles) put his 2nd best player on the field instead of the best at a position. This in itself opens up another complete thread! I have a feeling at the end of the year Bardo may very well be the best QB in NKY or the state for that matter, but it is hard to rate him based on potential.

 

Bardo could help the team out considerably by playing corner. Actually he did help the team out considerably by playing corner. Had two interceptions against Johnson Central as well as several td saving tackles. Had an interception in the state championship game. All around had an outstanding year playing cornerback. And no offense intended towards Guidugli, but in my opinion, the only position he could play was qb (perhaps TE, but we already had Roller and Welz capably filling that position). Plus on a team with a lot of junior starters on the offense, it was very important to have senior leadership at the qb spot. So there really are very valid reasons for Dale to have gone with Tony even if he thought Bardo was the better qb.

 

You may have never heard of a coach putting his second best player at a position instead of his best. It happens all the time. Sometimes in order to make the team overall stronger, a kid gets asked to play a different position than the one he'd be the best at. I could probably tie up the Ru's server with examples of where Dale has done that in the past. Do you doubt that Collinsworth would be the best WR on this year's Highlands team? Yet he's not playing that position because Dale feels he can help the team out more at running back. And what does that mean for the wide receiver position? You have the second best player playing that position.

 

I fully understand your inability to rate him based on potential, particularly in light of the fact that you probably haven't seen him in any of the 7 on 7s or practices. I think most sane people would also be so understanding. But there are some credible Highlands fans on here that have seen a lot of qbs over the years; understand and appreciate good qb play and the skills required; and think Bardo may very well be one of the best ever to play at Highlands if he performs in the games like he has in practices and in the 7 on 7s. Whether that makes him the best qb in N. Ky or the state is impossible to say. But it does mean he will be very, very good. And that's not hype.

To the Highlands faithful: I'm sure this will annoy some of you, but try to look at something from an outsider's perspective. I went back through a bunch of threads from last year that touted Guidugli very, very highly. In fact, some of the same people in this thread talked him up quite a bit. A few said that he and Bardo were close, but acknowledged that Dale would absolutely pick the one with the best talent and whoever played the best to be his starter. That turned out to be Guidugli. I saw him play a couple of times last year. He was good, but he was not special. Quite a few posters declared him an absolute D-1 lock. Wasn't even going to be close. He wasn't. So now Bardo, who was apparently legitimately beaten out by Guidugli last season, is already touted as a D-1 player and one of the best QB's in the state without having ever started a varsity game? I'm going to guess he's very, very good and may be all you say and more, but I hope you understand that sometimes your past "hype" of other players hurts your credibility with ones you're currently touting. Again, no offense intended and no doubt this kid is good, but he really needs to prove himself on the field a little to be touted this highly IMO.

Look, I'm really excited about seeing Bardo this year, particularly after reading the posts from those who have made practices and 7 on 7's; however, cooperstown does make a good point that he's going to wait until a few games have passed before making a judgement. That seems very reasonable to me.

You're asking what he has to do to live up to the hype? Real easy and quick answer. He would first have to actually PLAY in a game.

 

Like I said previously, I heard and believe that Bardo is better than Guidugli and should have been the starter last year. But IF he were that good don't you think he'd have tried to move Guidugli somewhere and use Bardo at QB, having him for TWO years as opposed to just one at the position? (Since he apparently is a major D1, future NFL prospect). Mueller likely knows more than we do about it all. And everyone hyped up Guidugli, who apparently Mueller liked at QB over Bardo last year, and he did NOT end up at a D1 school.

 

So it isn't unreasonable at all for anyone to question how he is somehow the best QB in NKY and the state, when he hasnt even played QB in a game yet. lol.
