You're asking what he has to do to live up to the hype? Real easy and quick answer. He would first have to actually PLAY in a game.

 

Like I said previously, I heard and believe that Bardo is better than Guidugli and should have been the starter last year. But IF he were that good don't you think he'd have tried to move Guidugli somewhere and use Bardo at QB, having him for TWO years as opposed to just one at the position? (Since he apparently is a major D1, future NFL prospect). Mueller likely knows more than we do about it all. And everyone hyped up Guidugli, who apparently Mueller liked at QB over Bardo last year, and he did NOT end up at a D1 school.

 

So it isn't unreasonable at all for anyone to question how he is somehow the best QB in NKY and the state, when he hasnt even played QB in a game yet. lol.

 

West, at this point, is the best QB in NKY.

I fully understand your inability to rate him based on potential, particularly in light of the fact that you probably haven't seen him in any of the 7 on 7s or practices. I think most sane people would also be so understanding. But there are some credible Highlands fans on here that have seen a lot of qbs over the years; understand and appreciate good qb play and the skills required; and think Bardo may very well be one of the best ever to play at Highlands if he performs in the games like he has in practices and in the 7 on 7s. Whether that makes him the best qb in N. Ky or the state is impossible to say. But it does mean he will be very, very good. And that's not hype.

If Bardo throws for 4 TD's and runs for 2 against your D will you believe the hype then?.......just asking.....what does he have to do to live up to the "Hype", because there are many people, not just HHS fans, that believe Bardo is the real deal already and 5A might just be a 3 month farewell tour for the HHS Seniors. I don't personally think that, but the GURU himself says Bardo is already playing at mid-season form. Seriously thought, what does the Bardo kid have to do to become a legit D1 candidate in your eyes, since all the HHS fans have blinders on.:lol:

Sorry, but 7 on 7 alone is not that accurate of a barometer of a QB's total ability since he isn't facing a rush and isn't throwing over and through lineman. What would he have to do to live up to the hype that HIGHLANDS fans have created? Honestly, quite a bit. Go through this and other threads - he has been built up pretty darn high. Frankly, if he were my son and entering his first year starting, I'd prefer people temper their expectations and praise just a tad. He may very well exceed everything that's been posted and more and I hope he does (though I'd prefer his success against Ryle is limited :sssh:). But for the time being, he is a talented athlete who hasn't played any varsity QB and needs to earn some of the accolades that have been thrown his way on the field. Actually this post I can't disagree with at all. It was your prior post stating that if Bardo was better than Guidugli last year, he would have started. I explained why it didn't occur that way. You've now explained you hadn't read my post. Hopefully you've now read my explanation and you understand why Bardo didn't start last year in my opinion.

 

As I've oft stated in this thread, I can understand people wanting to see him play in games before they become believers. I get that. No sane person would disagree. However, I feel that based on what I know and see he will be one of the top qbs in the state.

And we really don't know yet if Guidugli will end up being a Division I quarterback. We'll know in a year or two.

If Antonio Andrews ends of Mr. Football I'd be quite surprised. He has stats but he is not some sort of super-athlete. There are other kids that are just as good if not better. The season will flush them out. As a for instance, I remember some pretty impressive early-season rushing yardage stats coming from an RB from one NKY HS last year. The stats were flat-out amazing. All-America numbers. I thought I would be witnessing Shaun Alexander II, but not. Not even close. But it just goes to show that stats don't tell the whole story. Good kid. Over-used. Not particularly fast (probably 4.7 at best.) Not very big. Not durable enough for what he was being asked to do. Poor coaching judgement to put too many miles per week on that little sports coupe. Season ends earlier than expected. Not surprisingly 'no looks.'

 

Mr. Football kids need to be considered as stand-alone athletes and not based on how good their supporting cast is. Look at what Miles Simpson did last year. Now that was impressive! IMO he carried that team on his back. If he can repeat that performance he is probably 'the man.'

 

As for QB's, there are bound to be a couple of surprise kids that emerge showing dramatic improvements versus a year ago due to growth and maturity. Even Bardo might be one of them. Unfortunately not all the best QBs play for the very best team (although most play for pretty good teams) so how well they show will vary. Since it will never be a level playing field interested scouts will sort through that facts and make their decisons. We all have to remember that there are enough quality HS players coming out of OH, FL, TX, GA, IL and CAL to fill the rosters of every D1 team. Heck, didn't even mention NY, MI or IN. We are a small player. Being a kid from KY will require some VERY special talents to get serious consideration.

 

Boys that aspire to and are capable will be found -- and watched pretty carefully. Let there be no mistake that speed, body mass and football IQ/skills are the three main ingredients the 'watchers' will be looking for. If a kid only has 2 of the 3, it puts a heck of a lot of pressure on the other two.

 

For you players, the time to prove that you 'really' are fast, strong and make smart decisions is upon you. Hopefully you have done your homework.

Do you remember Travis Atwell??? He was from a 1A school, put up huge stats his senior year and won Mr. Football. He was a very good player and athlete. Andrews is a better athlete at this stage, after having watched both in person. He is a DI caliber athlete.

I spoke to three RYLE coaches today and a couple players (starters both). While you may not believe the hype, it occurred to me today that THEY indeed thought Bardo was going to be awfully good. I'm sure they relish the thought of playing such competition twice!:thumb:
