He has plenty interested, but due to the fact he did not play QB last year, colleges are taking the wait and see route. I'm sure after the first few games there will be alot of talking going on.

VOR, I assume you believe what I say. At least I would hope so. He did run a 4.5 at Ohio State according to Will's father, who is a close friend of mine and not one to Paul Bunyon things. While I realize there is a difference in a 40 and a 400 meter, the fact he anchored Highlands state championship 4x400 relay team this past spring is certainly an indicator the kid is fast.

 

As Henry stated, there are a lot of colleges interested, but they are taking a wait and see approach. Most qbs already offered started at qb their junior (and some, their sophomore) season. Will obviously did not, so that's the only reason possible that he does not have offers in my mind. He is very fast; is very coachable; is a really good kid; has a strong and accurate arm; has the height; and to top that off, is a very smart kid grade and ACT wise.

 

Add to that the very important fact (at least to me) that he didn't grumble one bit last year about not playing qb, in spite of believing that he was a better qb than Tony ( and he wasn't the only one that felt that way). Rather, he simply worked his tail end off to learn the cornerback position (which I don't think he had played since Junior Football days) and earned a starting position there. He played cornerback very well., particularly in the playoffs when it was crucial. I know he had at least one interception against Johnson Central and had another one against Christian County. He also had several touchdown saving tackles against Johnson Central and Whitley. The kid is truly legit.

 

And to add a question to your question, what Ky qbs that didn't play qb last year have offers from D-1 schools? The qb position is different than every other position on the field. Recruiters feel that if you have the size we'll turn you into a college player. That's not the case with qbs however. Because of the leadership, composure and other qualities needed to play qb, most college recruiters want to see a kid play the position before they get real interested and offer a scholly I've been told.

To the Highlands faithful: I'm sure this will annoy some of you, but try to look at something from an outsider's perspective. I went back through a bunch of threads from last year that touted Guidugli very, very highly. In fact, some of the same people in this thread talked him up quite a bit. A few said that he and Bardo were close, but acknowledged that Dale would absolutely pick the one with the best talent and whoever played the best to be his starter. That turned out to be Guidugli. I saw him play a couple of times last year. He was good, but he was not special. Quite a few posters declared him an absolute D-1 lock. Wasn't even going to be close. He wasn't. So now Bardo, who was apparently legitimately beaten out by Guidugli last season, is already touted as a D-1 player and one of the best QB's in the state without having ever started a varsity game? I'm going to guess he's very, very good and may be all you say and more, but I hope you understand that sometimes your past "hype" of other players hurts your credibility with ones you're currently touting. Again, no offense intended and no doubt this kid is good, but he really needs to prove himself on the field a little to be touted this highly IMO.

Thank you for that post and link. My whole point is a kid with Bardo's size and speed should get offers without ever seeing him throw a pass. D1 coaches will take an athlete like that every day of the week and make them into the player they want. That might mean he plays linebacker in a D1 school. You know the old saying - you can't coach size (and to some extent speed).

 

Now, back to the real topic of the thread ... are there any other QB's in Kentucky that are D1 bound or getting interest?

The finest quality about Highlands and the program is that the kids do whatever it takes to be successful. If that means a running back the previous year returns to play line in order for the team to have success they do it. IMO it shows the type of boy Bardo is to not make waves, play within the system and the offers still will come. I am a transplant and have an outsider perspective and trust me he has shown that type of talent in practice all through 7 on 7. He is the package size, speed, arm strength and a good student the offers will flood in shortly...and it sure helps that he has a solid supporting cast. We hope that you come out soon and see for yourself.

As of right now I still think it's West from Conner but I know Bardo will be very good too.

I have nothing to retract. I didn't disparage the young man at all. In fact, I believe I stated that he indeed probably is "very, very good." My point is that credibility is sometimes called into question when every Highlands player is a "D-1 lock" and the next superstar QB/WR/etc.. At the end of the day, Guidugli - who was VERY highly touted on this site by the Highlands faithful - was a nice high school QB, but not "special." So for those of us unfamiliar with Bardo, I'm sure you understand that it'll help to see him firsthand and not necessarily buy the hype quite so early.

 

That being said, best of luck to you all except for two games this year. I'll let you figure out which two . . . .
