Wood is 24 and was the Angels' top pick in 2003. He has been ranked as their best prospect for the last three years.

 

He was drafted as a shortstop but has also seen some time at third base. The Angels seem to think that's his best position.

 

Wood moved up the ladder pretty quickly and was in Triple-A to stay by 2007. If you take his Triple-A numbers over the last three years and compress them into one season, they look pretty good ... .292 with 35 HR and 100 RBI. He is a free swinger, not a real patient hitter, but appears to have lots of power potential.

 

He hasn't hit well in his brief trials with the Angels, but they haven't been real patient with him and he's still just 24 years old.

 

If the Reds happened to get him, I'm guessing they would take a look at him as a shortstop first.

Shew... would hate to see Hoss Harang go. On the other hand a 24 year old infielder with good power numbers and a pretty good glove.

I've heard Harang and Rhodes for Brandon Wood and 2 pitchers is on the table. This looks like a Jocketty like trade.

 

Something like this would be a much better course for the Reds to pursue than to deal away any prospects for what is probably a pipe dream of making a run at the division this season. One bat won't do it, they also need a leadoff hitter and probably a shortstop (unless anyone wants to bet on Gonzo finishing the season). If Volquez and Bruce were back healthy and ready to go I'd say give it a shot but even if they're back in two weeks it will probably be too late. I'd rather keep their core and prospects and see what they can do next year.

I'm with ya. There is no reason to acquire him & put him at 3rd.

 

He's probably our best bet at SS today.

I dont see them trading Rhodes he is under contract for another year. I look for the reds to trade Harang or Arroyo, probably Harang. Good or bad Arroyo does have double digit wins. Cant say that about Harang over the last two years. Hairston, Gomes and Nix are probably being shopped, cant think of any other reason to keep running Hairston out there. Nobody in their right mind would take Dusty's boy Taveras. We are stuck with him for this year and next.

The early difference in the game is that Brandon Phillips decided not to run hard on his fly ball to right that was misplayed and got gunned at 2nd costing the Reds a run. Eithier on the other hand, ran his fly ball out hard that Dickerson misplayed and ended up scoring because of it. Phillips does some great things on the field but his lack of hustle is sickening.
