Seattle could use a good closer in the end of their rotation if they are thinking about making a run. They are only 4 back and they have some bullpen issues. David Aardsma has done a good job closing.

Last night...

RHP Justin Lehr (7-1) continues his fine season, he gave up just 1 run on 5 hits in 8.0 innings (2bb, 4k, 1hb)...

I would have no been to happy if BP was in the lineup....

Willy Taveras cf

Jerry Hairston rf

Joey Votto 1b

Jonny Gomes lf

Edwin Encarnacion 3b

Ryan Hanigan c

Adam Rosales 2b

Paul Janish ss

Homer Bailey p

Why would Dusty make a stand now?

Votto didn't run hard on his ball off of the wall either. He ended up stealing 2nd though, so I guess it's a non-issue.

If we're going to win, we need Brandon Phillips in the lineup. If you want to make a point, pull him when it happens.

I hope Homer is on top of his game tonight because that lineup is dreadful.

Sure would have been nice to have signed Juan Rivera last offseason to play LF

He's batting .306 16HR 53RBI

:scared: That is a sad, sad lineup for a MLB team, seriously, that is bad.

Hindsight is always 20-20. Rivera was pretty crappy last year, and a lot of people were wondering why the Angels signed him for that kind of money.

Why make an example out of BP? He does a lot more good for the team than bad. That's not even debatable. Thos who are ripping him don't watch him a lot. It's not like he is the only player on the team who hasn't ran out a pop up or ground ball. I've seen every player on the team do it at some point.

Make an example out of Owings, he's the one who got blasted and gave up the 3 run lead the club got for him in the first.

That lineup they are running out there tonight looks like the Louisville Bats.

Why make an example of BP? What does it tell the rest of the 24 men on the roster if you don't make him an example? Is it too much to ask of him to hustle?

And I agree about the lineup for tonight, that is one sad 8 man offensive unit.

Not running out a pop up is a little different than getting thrown out at 2nd on a ball that landed on the warning track.

Okay, I must admit that I knew Rosales reminded me of someone, I have since figured it out. He looks like the dude from "Revenge of the Nerds"

Here’s Brandon Phillips' mea culpa:

“I deserve to be sitting on the bench right now. I’ve got to learn my lesson. It won’t happen again.”

“I talked to everybody when I went in the dugout. I said: My bad, I (messed) up. I really messed up. I really hope it doesn’t bite us in the "butt". If it does, it’s my fault we lost the game.

“I apologized to everybody. Things happen. I was happy to get the RBI in. I put my head down, made sure Joey (Votto) was tagging up. The player couldn’t find it. It was one of those times. I’ve been consistent about running. You haven’t heard anything about me running in a long time. That one time. . . you’re not hustling. It just bit me.

“It cost us the game. You never know how big that inning would have been. (Jason) Schmidt would have been out of the game. You can imagine what would have happened. I let Micah (Owings) down and I let my team down.”

“I’ll take the fall. I deserve to be set down. I really do. If something comes up, maybe I can come off the bench and get the game winning hit.”

Dusty Baker said there's a chance that Phillips could pinch-hit or enter as a double switch.

"I'm not going to lose a game over a principle," Baker said.

They just showed ED in the dugout, I think I'd put him in the game tonight if I were DB.

ED?
