I don't think the Reds can afford to be sellers. You don't want your already waning fan base to suffer from the Pittsburgh Syndrome

We got Wilkin Castillo, Dallas Buck & Micah Owings in the Adam Dunn trade. It was a brilliant trade for the Reds, although we do miss Dunn's production.

Brilliant? Well, it's a little early for that ... depends on what Buck becomes.

 

Briliant would have been re-signing Dunn at a cheaper rate than expected and still getting three players/prospects for him.

The Volquez trade is working out awesome, too. Hamilton has spent a lot of time on the DL & isn't putting up the #'s that he has the past few years. And don't forget, Daniel Rey Herrera was a part of that deal too.

If the Reds had seriously pursued him ... well, who knows?

 

And if he really didn't want to come back ... well, who could blame him, the way he was hammered by fans that didn't appreciate the things he could do well.

Honestly, I'm still on the fence as to whether we should be buyers or sellers. After a rough stretch, it's tempting to say sell, but there is still a lot of time left. Another bat would help this team out tremendously, although they still have plenty of shortcomings.

 

The Reds never perform well in LA & this was no different. I was hoping they'd take 1 of 3, but they couldn't. Plenty of games to sneak in a few wins, though.

 

They are 12 games under .500 since May 27th. That's 2 months of bad play. Unless you think a sub .500 record will win the division its time to sell.

I believe the Reds are lacking in Baseball IQ. Hariston tries to steal third with no outs. In the sixth inning, Taveras singles and steala second. Votto rips a single to center that was not going to be caught and Taveras, our fastest guy stops at third. Then Phillips comes up and is passive and strikes out while swinging at only one pitch a curveball in the dirt. Nix comes up and is super aggressive and strikes out without swinging at a strike. A wild pitch ties the game before Encarcion strikes out and does not run when the catcher misses the ball. Arroyo comes right out and walks two of the first three batters and we always give up a hit after walks. Then Dusty changes pitchers and a first pitch fastball right down the middle again Reds lose!!!! That is about seven or more of those fastballs right down the middle. Pujols, Braun and Fielder love playing in this division against the Reds!!!!

Just wanted to make sure people caught this in the game last night. Reds get two on in the sixth with our fourth place hitter up. Braxton was kinda struggling so Phillips should have been chomping at the bit in the box. On the first pitch, Braxton throws a first pitch fastball down the middle and Phillips does that little turn your back to the pitcher cool move and had no intentions of swinging. The next pitch he had made up his mind to swing and he swings at a curveball low and outside and missed it by a foot. Then he strikes out looking to start the rally killer. On the other hand, The bases are loaded and Ramirez comes out of the dugout thing aggressive and knowing the situation. Without being or looking cool he drills a first pitch fastball for his first pitch hit HR ever. He is a professional hitter but Phillips is cool with that new necklace around his neck. This is why the Reds are losers and have been for several years. The sad thing is I do not see it changing in the near future!!! And yes I am a lifelong Reds fan.:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Agree with earlier post. Reds will be sellers this weekend. Arroyo's comments

when Reds got to L.A. prophetic. Poor West Coast showing would translate

to players being price tagged. Reds quit pretending they were 'in the race'

when Puljos lit up Weathers for another grand slam July 3rd. Baker sure has

made some bad calls when switching out pitchers. His choices have been

drilled in big moments. Disappointing Reds team after hype over pitching

being its' strong suit. How many stud Reds pitchers can anybody name from

the last ten to fifteen years?:idunno:

 

It kills me that people still want to say the Pujols homer has anything to do w/ this. They have played good teams the last couple of weeks that is the reason they are falling fast. They're opening day starter leads the league in losses and quite frankly hasn't been good since he went back out after a 2 hour rain delay. Their supposed best pitcher has missed 2 months. Their best hitter missed time, and their supposed up and coming superstar RF is out, but when he was here he was hitting .200. They finally got to a 20 game stretch of their schedule where they couldn't hide all of their flaws. That has nothing to do w/ Pujols going deep.

Trivia question: What game did Harang receive his last win?

May 25th against the Astros. Game when Harang came back out after a 2 hour rain delay to get one out. Brilliant move by our fearless leader. One would think he would have learned from the San Diego fiasco last year.

Harang has had either 5 or 6 quality starts since coming back during the game against the Astros. So it's his fault now when he throws a quality start and gets a loss or ND?

It isn't his falut every game, but he still shouldn't have gone back out there. Say what you want about decent starts since then. He's supposed to be the Ace and he has 0 wins since then. It was dumb to go back out even if you don't want to admit it.
