Such is the malaise of Reds fans who are forced to root for a perenially underperforming team. You keep trotting out the same mantras - "Next year they will compete", "next year they will be much improved", "'this (marginal) player (i.e., Taveras, Patterson, etc..) will really help them out a ton", "that player (Encarnacion, Bailey, Bruce) is finally ready to come into their own", "this GM really has a solid game plan to turn them around", and on and on. At the end of the day, 2009 will likely be yet another in a long line of Reds teams that finish well below .500 and may even cast off some of their better talent in exchange for "future" prospects that may "one day" prove their worth on the field. Unfortunately, it seems as though the "future" never arrives here in Cincinnati. It's a never-ending cycle and it does get frustrating.

 

I wish hat I could offer up an argument with your post but I cannot. I will always be a Reds fans but no longer will listen to all of the "lip service", I want results and I think Reds fans have waited long enough and listened to too much hype......too long and too much.

No, I am not expecting another Big Red Machine of the 70's to come along, that imo will not happen again. I do expect to see a competative major league baseball team and we have not seen anything to resemble that for a looooooong time.

Another terrible game by the Reds Offense. Starting eight should be ashamed with the Offense they put out except Hanigan. Phillips and his new necklace grounded into another double play and Votto look at the third strike to end the game with him being the tying run. The Reds long gone!!! Done!!! Done!!! But somehow it is Dusty's fault on here with a Red's offense that might outscore some of the teams playing at Tom Browning field in Maysville.

They are so much better offensively after getting rid of that player with 24 home runs, 47 runs scored and 65 RBI's, which of course would lead the Reds in ALL THREE categories.

The first inning defense by the Reds is a disgrace to baseball. Let's see how tough Dusty is... Taveras just dogged it on a ball hit in the outfield. Just as bad as anything BP has done this year, if not worse. I bet he doesn't get benched for it. Heck, he ought to be benched just because. The dude is a terrible baseball player and this is a terrible baseball team.

The Reds are just a group of bad players. Toronto's second baseman has more home runs than anyone for the reds. This is a low average hitting team that can't hit homers.

Taveras will be right back in centerfield tomorrow. He was cast off from the rockies and houston for goodness sake. Its time for us to quit retreading and start developing or trading for proven players. As long as the current coaching staff is in Cincinnati then we are doomed for 4th or 5th place. They are horrible. Dick Poole and Dusty ruined Mark Pryor and tried to ruin Kerry Wood. Now we are letting them take care of Voluquez and Cueto, not to mention what they have done to Harang. Yes this is a bad team but some of the crap that goes on is a direct result of the manager. DUSTY...

I don't think so. The Red's winning% is no worse without Dunn. What was AZ % with him? He cerainly didn't put them over the top last season. What were his #s down the stretch the one season the Reds were in contention with him? Yeah he's got great #s this season. But once again he is putting them up with a losing team with no pressure to win ball games. I am not sold on Dunn till I see him doing it on a contender. Which we he hasn't in his entire career.

Since 99. 95 for a playoff appearance. I've been singing this tune for a couple of years, and hear the same stuff for all of the apologists. "Give them time." "They have a plan". They'd be no better off with Dunn. AZ got him as a hired gun last season to push them into the playoffs. How'd that workout? Dunn collapsed in the stretch run in 06 when the Reds were pusing for a playoff spot. And yeah they are all losers. Until you win you're a loser. Pretty simple stuff..

I know there are alot guys with inside info on the Reds on this site. Can someone please explain the big red/white necklace rope around Phillips neck? No wonder he can't hustle because it is weighing him down. I am surprised the Reds allow this. Necklaces are fine but they should be shorter and always tucked under the shirt. Somebody help me out.
