July 20, 200917 yr Hernandez to have surgery, out 4-6 weeks, so much for any idea of trading him. How does everyone feel about Rosales and Weather for Aubrey Huff? That's a rumor I have been hearing. We shall see.
July 20, 200917 yr Can Huff play OF? He won't help the team get back into the race, but he could be a nice addition to the team for next season as a bat off the bench/spot start guy.
July 20, 200917 yr Where would Huff play? He's a 1B/DH and I know he's played at third but only about 90 games in the past three seasons. I say pass.
July 20, 200917 yr Author I would have to think if they pulled that off Edwin would be shipped somewhere as well.
July 20, 200917 yr Apparently Walt was on the radio either yesterday or today saying that he's been told to spend whatever is necessary, just that the player better be worth it.
July 20, 200917 yr Huff has played 3B and he has played LF but those days appear to be in his past. I'm not saying he couldn't be put out in the field and this team could use some lumber but I don't think Huff solves any problems due to him not fitting into the overall picture defensively.

We shall see. Would they have been able to get anything of value for Hernandez? I doubt it. Huff could give the Reds a decent bat in LF, but I don't know why the Orioles would do that deal. What are they getting out of it?

I'm not saying he couldn't be put out in the field and this team could use some lumber but I don't think Huff solves any problems due to him not fitting into the overall picture defensively.Huff doesn't play in the OF for the Orioles because they don't need him there. Reimold, Jones and Markakis are a good young group and Luke Scott is having to DH most of the time for that reason.
July 20, 200917 yr Getting rid of his high salary 8 Mil and adding a solid RP.Weathers makes close to $4 million, so the Orioles wouldn't gain that much financially out of it. And Huff is a free agent after this year, so it isn't like Baltimore is trying to get out of a long-term deal. I would think that the Orioles could get a little younger and cheaper package than that, especially in a seller's market.
July 20, 200917 yr Go and get a bat. There are 72 games left a lot can happen. St. Louis won the divison in 06 with 83 wins.
July 20, 200917 yr Go and get a bat. There are 72 games left a lot can happen. St. Louis won the divison in 06 with 83 wins. This isn't 2006. St. Louis is already 51-43 on the year. If they play .500 ball over their last 68 games that would put them at 85 wins. For the Reds to get to 85 wins they would have to go 41-30 the rest of the way. That doesn't sound impossible but if the Cardinals maintain their .543 winning percentage they would finish with 89 wins. That would mean the Reds would have to go 45-26. This is with Bruce and Hernandez on the shelf for an extended time and Gonzalez and Volquez still not back. Do you really think 1 bat is going to be enough to make a legitimate run? If not there's no sense in giving away any prospects.
July 20, 200917 yr I've heard Harang and Rhodes for Brandon Wood and 2 pitchers is on the table. This looks like a Jocketty like trade.
