Being a spectator at the ItTakes5 tournament today put on by Adidas, it was cool to see guys like Roy Williams, John Calipari, Billy Donovan, John Thompson lll, Walter McCarty, Danny Manning, Bob Huggins, Mick Cronin, etc. etc. These are guys that many people see on T.V. and they put them on a pedistool because they coach major college programs, but when you are around them and see how they act and react to public situations, you see that they are just regular guys (albeit with big wallets), but very cool. They were all cool, calm, collect and just doing what they do.

 

I spent the majority of time in the rec center watching the more local teams like the Indy Elite, OBC, Kentucky Gators etc. One team I was a bit interested in was the NKY Bulldogs. This is a team that I see popping up in more and more high level tournaments and they never seem to disappoint. They dont always win, but they always battle, and they win their fair share. You can certainly expect to see a really good game if you watch them play against any opponent. Number 24 for the Bulldogs who I believe to be (hear say) Zach Barnett of St. Henry High School is really playing well (The kid can shoot the lights out). Also, the pick-up of Travis Montgomery out of Boone County, has proven to be big. He scored 16 points, that I saw, in a big win against the St. Louis Gateway basketball club.

 

Does anyone know how the Shining Stars 15-17's did in this tournament? Well I hope. I didnt see the 16's in the rec center, were they located elsewhere? As for the 17's, I read that Sewell has selected Miami (Oh.) as his school of choice. Very cool and congrats to the kid!

 

I also saw the Lex Ice in the rec, but I didnt get to see them play much. How did they do?

In their second game, they were down by 18 with 5:00 left and came back to win. It was like they all of a sudden turned on the switch. It was awesome to watch.

The CP3 All-Stars are also missing P.J. Hairston who is a top 25 player in his class(junior to be). He hurt his groin at the NBA camp and isn't ready to play yet. He is a shooting guard that has major D1 programs hot on his trail.

I agree...there were also a few kids from the second team that Ky Players played that stood out to me as well. Common Bond-Hicks.

#11 was a very solid pg that was stroking it from outside and handled the ball extremely well...#3 was a very athletic wing that had a few nice dunks and blocks...one dunk came on a breakaway oop off the glass from a teammate...absolutely nasty.

Yeah... Mohamed Conde is #3. No college interest. Dunking doesn't make you a major prospect.

 

Their point guard was #10 not 11 and he was really quick with the ball and tall for a PG but he has no interest either at this point. His name is Brandon Gouch, and he didn't stroke it. He made one three.

The prices to watch the games and for parking is beyond ridiculous! Most if not all the spectators had no idea the prices would be this high, if I am not mistaken last year it was only $5 to park at UC no matter how long you were there. This year if you left you had to pay to re-enter, at least at NKU you could come back and use the same parking ticket, did they charge for parking at Sportsville too?

Some people don't care that there are a bunch of D-1 coaches and recruits there, they just wanted to watch their grandson play ball and $30 for Gramps and Granny to watch a couple of games is crazy.

He played today unless that was a twin. D.S 16 and under won two today. They play tomorrow around 1 PM at UC.

 

That's good to hear for him. Glad he got better or was misdiagnosed.

Kentucky Ice lost to Atlanta Celtics by 7 and then lost to KC Pump N Run by 9. In the Atl game, they missed several easy layups and made some foolish turnovers. It was a game the whole way and ATL is talented. In the KC game, the Ice were up for a lot of the first half, then got down and were up at half. The 2nd half they came out flat and and ended up losing by 9. Both of their opponents are in the platinum bracket now and are strong national teams. they will do well today.

 

The Ice play the QC Prophets at 10:40 at NKU in the Gold Bracket. Hopefully they get it together and make some noise today.

Shining Stars 15 and 16u both went 0-2

There's also another pretty good NCAA-certified tournament going on this week in Indianapolis with some Kentucky boys in it. The tournament is not quite as high profile as the Adidas one, but there are 104 teams from all over the country at Warren Central High School, and plenty of college coaches there--mostly mid-major D1, D2, and lower. I counted about 16 coaches watching one of the pool games. From KY, I saw Eastern KY and Morehead State represented. They are charging $10 a day to attend the tournament.

 

I saw Trevor Wellbrock with Shining Stars White, and I think they may have picked up Villa Madonna's Blake Bryan, although I didn't get to see them actually play.

 

Shining Stars Blue won their first two games. The second game was an exciting 1-point comeback from about 12 down over a good San Francisco team. Shelby County's Johnson played solid, getting some nice rebounds and stickbacks and scoring about 8 each game. Boone County's Popp had several nice assists and scored about 10 in the first game and about 20 in the second one.

 

Higher Level Black and Gold from Louisville are also there.

Oh I agree 100%, but I don't think the promoters of this tournament are too interested in Grampa and Grandma watching the games. This generaly only applies to the local teams anyway.
