“He hasn’t talked to the staff or coach Calipari,” said his mother, Robyn Curry. “They were supposed to be in contact with him and asked to put it off until Monday.

 

“The university evaluated and wanted him. Now we need to evaluate the new coaches and see if it is still a good fit for Vinny,” Curry said.

 

“Vinny was getting looks by others before we made the verbal to Kentucky,” Curry said. “We don’t have any pressure on us. I am just glad this was not his senior year. It’s bad enough to have this happen with two years of high school left. I can’t imagine how it must be for kids who were seniors and thought they had their college plans set.”

 

Curry did want to put one rumor to rest. They are not moving back to Ohio.

“We went to Ohio last weekend and speculation was we were moving back,” she said. “That’s not true. This has been a great move for us. We are playing for a great coach. The school is great academically. The move has been something we are not going to regret.

It seemed like Mr. Zollo improved tremendously as this past season went on. I would guess that the new staff at Kentucky is keeping Zollo on their radar/commitment list for right now. He might not end up in Lexington, but I don't think Cal & Co. are pushing him away just yet. It is weird that he hasn't been called, however.

I just wonder if they would have called Euton by now . No one called him, he just un-committed on his own.

He did...took him awhile to get over from breaking his leg last summer. I saw a big improvement after the Christmas break. He is young , still growing and should be a real force by the time he is a senior.

I agree, he improved a lot over the course of the season.

Zollo has a big upside just finishing his sophmore season. He could grow more and will no doubt get stronger. I think he has more potential to improve than Euton.

Calipari is in Detroit for the Final Four and Championship, and the Pistons game yesterday, that could be why he hasn't called or put off communication for a while.

He made an attempt to talk to the others I think he is trying to let him down easy. IMO I think he can play Div. I but not the style that Coach Cal plays. Do you think if he really wanted him he would have contacted him the same time as Hood and the others he talked to last week. JMO

Hood and Orton had signed LOI's and were due on campus next season. Zollo has plenty of time to figure out where he will fit in at UK. Unlike BCG I doubt keeping commitments from kids 3 years away from being on campus is a really big priority.

I think Zollo is a good player and seems like a good kid, but I would be really surprised if UK keeps him as a committment. He just doesn't fit Calipari's system.

Euton was presented with a much needed escape hatch opportunity and jumped at it. He is probably a relieved young man and sleeping much better these nights since this is now behind him. He can now play without trying to overly impress everyone and land at the proper school where he can become an impact player and have a fine four year college experience.

 

Zollo on the other hand, looks like he might grow into a good one. Good kid, plenty of potential. Coach Cal may not believe in obtaining verbals from the "kinder-corps" and may want to see what the next couple of years bring, and what else is out there. I'm sure that Calipari will be keeping an eye on him, regardless of how Zollo's present situation works out.

 

I'm surprised that mom is so shocked that the UK pres isn't returning her calls. With the new sherrif in town, I'm sure that he is letting the coach negotiate his own future and does not wish to step into a situation that he cannot mediate. I'm sure that buddying up with the UK president was a part of the overall Gillespie recruiting process - whatever it takes.

 

I like Vinny Zollo. I hope that everything works out for the best for him. :thumb:

And I would guess that the dead period is not just for coaches. It would be for anyone associated with the university
