I think the draw had more to do with Central being there than anything. IMO Shelby Valley, Mason, Elliott, or maybe even Catholic would have been in the finals if any of them had been in the upper bracket. Would any of them beat Holmes maybe not. I will say Holems first half v. Catholic is some of the best ball I have seen in my almost 30 years of coming to the state tournament.

Finally, someone returns to the discussion of who would win: Elliott or Central. Thank you.

First night on BGP's since I got home on Sunday afternoon. I was afraid there would be negativity instead of pride and rejoicing for the outstanding play that was witnessed in Rupp.

I am a graduate of Elliott and would still go back and play if I could but never will again. This is how much I love that tiny little county. I don't expect anyone to understand that unless you are from there. I am sure that the same passion is felt by the rest of the folks who participate in discussions/debate on these forums.

With all the cheese and wine stuff said I will say this: I was one of the many booo's that rang out when those no-calls or (IMO) wrong calls were made but that does not in anyway take away the respect that I gained for a very good Holmes team. I applaud their poise and their coach for the way he directed that team.

The bottomline to me is everyone had the same hurdles to jump and debating the bracket and it's potential issues for certain teams won't change the winner in the program moving forward.

I will always remember being in front of Elliott's band when it was over and looking up through our crowd and seeing all those teared up eyes. That in itself was all I needed.

I congratulate Covington Holmes and their win. You folks worked hard enough to get the job done and those boys should hear it.

Does any of this really matter? You could run the 6th region tourney 5 more times and could have a different champ each time. You could replay every regional tourney a 100 times and get a different mixture of teams each and every time. You could take these teams and run the Sweet 16 over and over. The surest bet that I would take is, no matter how you replay it Holmes is in the title game.

 

This year Milan just happened to be at 11th and Chestnut. Congrats Central on doing your thing.

It was a losing record I am pretty sure. And I don't think it is a winning one now. I may be wrong though.

 

 

According to the Sweet 16 radio network Elliott's win over Shelby Valley was his 400th. The loss to Holmes would have been his 366th.

I really don't understand all of the "Elliott Co is nothing special" comments. Especially the ones that get used over and over and over.

Elliott had a special team as did Central, Eastern, Lex Cath, Shelby Valley, Scott County and Mason and a few more. They all accomplished some good to great things this season. Holmes was definitely great.

It depends on your definition of "special" ...

 

Elliott was a unique team, given their story and style of play and the fact that those kids hail from a school that has never been a real factor in Kentucky basketball.

 

As far as their success and accomplishments, I don't know that they're any more "special" than some other small-school teams of the last 20 years.

This team was indeed special. They drew diehard fans that were not from Elliott County, like myself, and accomplished far beyond anything the school had previously accomplished.

 

I realize that there were many special teams throughout the state and everyone should be proud of strong accomplishments. This is not underselling other teams accomplishments such as Holmes for example. They won the state and proved they deserved it.

 

I will not stop praising Elliott's team and neither should the fans of Holmes, SV, Central, Eastern etc....

 

There were many great stories in High School Basketball throughout the season.
