Holmes is a very good team. I think they are a top 3 team in the state and when they are on top of their game as they were against Lex. Cath. they are unstoppable. I just think that if Elliott County shoots the ball well they would beat Holmes. I really like Coach Henley but there is a player on Holmes that his attitude just makes me not to want to root for them.

Maybe the reason so many people we so slow to give EC credit is because some on here refuse to give credit where it is due. The only game where Holmes played lights out was early in the Lex. Cath game, but no one is complaining. When they are on I think they are atleast 15 points better than any other team in the state, taking nothing away from anyone elses team, but it's just the way I see it.

 

EC had a fine team. If they were lights out, if the walk was called instead of the foul, whatever...it is history. Holmes is the champion. If EC, Central, or anyone else won, I would have given them the same amount of credit. Playing 4 games in 3 days is no easy feat.

 

Whether you like them or not Holmes is the best in the state. 2-300 can be debated for all of eternity, but not #1. Every team from all over the state had the same amout of chances, and only one team wins their last game....The Champs

We have been told over and over for four years by their partisans that these Elliott County boys don't get tired. After all, so we were told, they have played AAU together since the fourth grade and, as we all know, AAU teams often play two and sometimes three games a day in some of these tournaments. Therefore, I would be interested in knowing just what caused the tiring of Elliott County in this tournament since, as was said, they don't get tired. And, in reality, the teams that EC beat in the first two rounds were no better than the two that Holmes beat. So, no excuse there.

 

I don't believe they would have had any chance to beat Holmes unless the game were played at Sandy Hook. I also would say the same about a game against Central, Eastern, or Scott County.

 

They lost. They were the pretournament favorite (certainly no Cinderella) according to many including Litkenhous. But, as with all the others except Holmes, they lost. They are not the champions. They will not be the champions. That is just reality and no amount of "woulda, coulda, shoulda" will change it. I'll also bet that Central, Eastern, Scott County, and maybe a few others are also playing the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" game. When you lose, that tends to be the case.

If I'm in your shoes I would just be happy with the 3 straight 16th region titles. If you were in the 7th,9th,10th or 11th regions you may not have ever seen Rupp. I'm very surprised that team never won an All A. I can not believe that anyone watching the EC-Holmes game still thinks Elliott is the better team.

Elliott was a great team, but I think a good, disciplined coach would have benefited this team greatly. When they cut the lead to four in the 4th quarter, they followed with some bad decisions that allowed Holmes to stretch the lead again.

 

They made bad decisions all throughout the game, and still had a chance to win. Central played so well against Holmes because they had a game plan intact, and executed the plan. Based on raw talent, Elliott is the better team.

They surely wouldn't have even broken .500 if they played in the mighty 6th, 7th, 9th, 10th or 11th regions. I mean, there's no way these mountain boys from rural Kentucky could even compete in the regions you mentioned. If they play in any of those regions, they go from 32-3 to 7-21. And as for us Mountain folks, we are VERY happy that we aren't located in any of those regions - not just in basketball, either.

Yes I did watch it. I saw a game with calls both ways that were missed. I also saw a Holmes team control the whole game after Elliot started the game off winning 8 to 2. Its not like this game was back and fourth the whole game. Holmes led throughout after the start and stayed at about a 7 point lead throughout. Anytime Elliot cut it to about 4, Holmes usually pushed it right back to ten. The better team won, end of story. I mean if Elliot Co and Holmes played ten times Elliot might win 2 or 3 cause they might catch fire for a couple of those. However Holmes would win the majority of the time.

I don't think that is what they are saying at all. They are saying that the 16th provides a cake walk that EC didn't have to play their best in to win most if not every game. Even East Carter couldn't really have beaten the Lions. It is improbable to think that EC's record would have been as sparkling in Louisville or Lexington. I still think that they would have a good record and been a contender to do good things at the state tournament, but they would have had some losses playing in those regions. They are a good team, but they are atleast 5 or 6 or more teams in Louisville that could have beaten them on a given night, you don't have that in the 16th. I do think that EC had proved that they belong on the floor with anyone and no one is disputing that.

 

I think they are saying that you should be thankful that you had an easier path to get to the state tournament. That sounds like a slap in the face, but it's really not, it is a good thing and the truth. Scott County for instance, probably could have made a nice run at the tournament but they were knocked out in the region. Think of teams like Scott County, Boone County, Clark County, and the slew of teams in Lexington and Louisville that didn't get the chance to play at Rupp. In those regions it is one bad game and you're done. Honestly, not much could have happened that the Lions would have been beaten in the 16th regional tournament.

 

EC would have still had a great team and a good record in Louisville, but to think that they are invincible is something that has been proven invalid.

 

EC fans be happy about your team, they had a great run, and were clearly one of the best teams in the state. Don't take things so personally.

I am not going to say a fresh EC beats a fresh Holmes, but how can you not think it wouldn't be a different game if you have seen both play when both were indeed fresh!

 

A fresh Holmes team, means even better defense by Holmes. I mean Holmes defense had more to do with Elliot being far below their scoring average, than did them not being fresh. Plus they were playing for the chance to be in the state championship game, so I feel like they had plenty of energy. Holmes made them have to work harder to get open shots, than they probably ever had this year. Which would lead to not shooting as well. So yeah IMO if both teams would be fresh, it would still be about the same outcome, because as I said before you people fail to realize that means Holmes defense would have had even more energy go guard them. The better team won the game.

A fresh Elliott County would also beat Holmes IMO.

 

Basketball is a team sport which consists of five starters and substitutes. Elliott had the five starters but the coach did nothing to develop the substitutes during the regular season (instead of beating teams by 40, maybe he should have played the bench players more and only won games by 15 or 20). That would have helped them when it came tournament time playing against the best teams in the state. Holmes and Central are better than Elliott because of this. They are more athletic and have contributions off the bench.

Oh I watched it close, and what I saw was the better team winning the game. Elliot Co was a great story, but they just are not the better team.
