  1. I believe this hits the nail on the head. USA Today, ESPN, etc., all this national notoriety that little old Elliott County received over all the teams with D-1 players, the big long and athletic beasts on some teams, players with wing-spans a mile wide that could do windmill dunks above the rim, but still yet Elliott County was the Cinderella favorite all through the season and at the Sweet 16 ball. Mr. Viking, you said it well.
  2. It's good to hear from you Lion Mania. We are all still here, still reading BGP, and the bashing still continues, but now it's the fans. We still love our team and still stand behind them and support them. No they are not the team from last year, but they are still good as Lion Mania says. Last years team was a dream team for Elliott County and small schools everywhere. We have no Toyota Plant or Big City across the river to draw players, ours was a bunch of local country boys with dedication and love of the game. That just didn't sit too well with the "elitists" as Lion Mania states. I remember reading lots of boasting and grandstanding on many threads that didn't receive near the trashing Elliott County did. But Elliott County went to the big dance and we enjoyed every minute of it. We aren't going away, and we are still watching our team
  3. I've seen a lot of amazing things on BGP, but this one takes the cake. As far as basketball knowledge in general, Lion Mania has posted candid, intelligent, well-researched, witty, and just plain interesting posts not only about Elliott County, but other teams and players across the state and country.:ylsuper: Wireman is also one of the most knowledgeable as far as teams in the eastern part of the state.:thumb: And of course Dale Ferguson has posted the most witty, sarcastic, blunt, and downright truthful and funny posts this year.:taz: Eta Rho, Henry Steele, Les, there is just nothing I can say to fit. Elliott County fans that have posted were always accused of being the most exhuberant about their team, but IMO they take a back seat to some of the others.:ohbrother: BGP just isn't the same without all the 16th region posters, but we will be back next year.
  4. As always, Lion Mania, you say it well. GREAT accomplishments for the Lions.
  5. Elliott 07, 08 (Tyler Maynards big 3-pointer in Darius Millers face), 09.
  6. As you can tell, I am an Elliott fan, but as far as Justice is concerned, he is one of the best returning point guards in the state of Kentucky.
  7. Oh but they are a great team, great in many ways, read posts #77 and #78. The bashing continues.......:deadhorse:
  8. Mark Maynard said it better this morning in the Ashland Daily Independent: "What made Elliott County's run so special is that it was accomplished the old fashioned way, with hard work, homegrown talent and a team of players who had a passion for the game that's not seen much these days. There were no hired guns on the roster, no agendas for individual players who wanted to be a star. They played for Elliott County because that's where they lived, where they grew up, where they learned to play together. Since these players were in 7th grade, they banded together on AAU teams in the summer, working on skills and learning each other's every move while playing more than 1,000 games together. That's why Elliott County's basketball team was so fluid. Watching them play was like watching someone pour water out of a pitcher into a glass. There were no ripples, just pure flow. Basketball is better in Kentucky because Elliott County passed through it the last three years. It showed once again that it's not always the size of the school or community, but the size of the heart." Maybe somebody could post a link, this is a great article that sums it all up.
  9. The season is over, congrats to Holmes, they were the best team Saturday morning. But to all of us Elliott fans, the Lions are our team. We have enjoyed this ride for several years and we've had a ball. These kids have brought together a little community like nothing I have ever seen. They have played together for years in the same school, we've watched them grow up with a fierce dedication, determination, and love of basketball. We are so proud of these kids and wish the seniors the very best in the future. We will surely miss them. We are also proud of our cheerleaders for winning the Sweet 16 competition. Congrats to ALL of the cheerleaders, this was a total group effort by all that cheered. I am surprised this thread is still open, it has gone off topic several times. We can "what if" this dog to death and Elliott will continue to get bashed. No they didn't go all the way, but we are still happy and proud. This was a home-grown special team that may or may not ever happen again in this little town. Yes Elliott has shown they are a good team by beating several top teams in the state. Was it the press, ESPN, USA Today, major newspapers across the state and WV, TV stations in KY and WV, all showing respect for this team that has so many people's panties in a bunch?
  10. All I can say is I can't wait to see these mythical, muscular, giants of Holmes plucking quarters off the tops of the backboards making all other teams look like mere muchkins in OZ.
  11. Some of the worst officiating I have ever seen, GO RADIO. Last nights game and tonights game was terrible as far as refs. Rowan County played a good game, but too bad the second half was ruined by the zebras.:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:
  12. YEA, Elliott finally had a student pep section last night at the girls game in Morehead. They were great, cheered and chanted the whole game. Mostly it was the boys ball team there to support the girls. Hope to see more student sections at the upcoming girls and boys games.:clap:
  13. Good articles. :ylsuper: I sent the Ashland Daily emails this evening.
