With very few exceptions, student support has continued to erode and this year seems to be worse than ever. I looked at pictures of the Holmes/BW game and I didn't see a student body on either end. I went to the Ryle/Boone game (2200+ kids combined) and saw a handful (albeit exuberant) students. Someone mentioned that Highlands had no student body tonight.

 

Why?

Did anyone see the Scott Bishop Brossart game. Now that's a good crowd/student body!!

Haven't noticed this problem in the 8th region.

Highlands and NCC both had very good student support tonight.:confused:

Holmes, in general, seems to never have a good student body crowd on hand and that disappoints me as they have one of the premier programs in the state. Thats not a knock on them at all just an observation....

Couldn't agree more Holmes students should get behind their team they've got a very legit shot at winning the sweet 16!!!! What else do they want?

Scott has always had good crowds whether it was basketball or football! They always have excellent student body support.

 

I only wish theyd show some of that support for the baseball program as they have had some very good success but neveer seem to have much support other than the parents that come out to support their kids. About the only student support I see is from the schools fast pitch softball players and the baseball players return the favor by attending their games as well when they can.

 

In general I'd like to see more student body support for the baseball games but thats a discussion for an entirely different part of this forum.

There are a few teachers trying to get the "Dawg Pound" back in commission. I hope we see it soon.

I think that person misinformed you. They had a pretty good turnout.

Oh I am sure if they go to Rupp, they will come out, if for no other reason than to miss school. Me, if I were on the Board of Education and our school had no student support all season, then guess what, there would be school to attend during the Sweet Sixteen.

I myself am an alumnus of Holmes, and it is down right pathetic that we have no student section. I have been attending games since I was 10 cause my brother went to school there as well, and the only time we even had something close to a student section for basketball was 2001-2002. Everyone is more worried about talking to their friends during the game rather than cheering on their team. When I went to games and still go, I root for the team when the game is going on. I'm not saying I want a section like Cov Cath's, although it would be nice, but lets fill up at least part of the end section. I believe kids are worried about getting made fun of if they are in a student section.

Rule 13

A good barometer is BGP. I had to look long and hard to even find the thread regarding NCC v. HHS playing. Yesterday afternoon there were about 10 entries from 5 people. Years ago, that thread doesn't get out of the top 2 entries for DAYS! Apathy? Is the district title not important? (losers go anyway). Make the tourney "winner take all" and there will be MUCH more emphasis for the games. Last night HHS had the district game, a Band competition, and the Ed. Foundation dance all scheduled for the same time. The school isn't large enough to support, en masse, three events simultaneously. No Seniors on the team could alienate one fourth of the school population, also. No one thing kills school spirit...it takes alot of little things adding up over time. JMO.

The Holmes student section barely exists. Most of those sitting in that section are alumni or staff, trying their darndest to get the students to participate. It is very frustrating to see students sitting, and even more frustrating that they often have no idea what is going on in the game. It is an exciting time for Holmes and the students should be eating that up.

 

But someone also mentioned student spirit at other schools. It does seem to be an epidemic. School spirit and pride is certainly not what I remember as a student.

 

If anyone has the solution, you will be a very popular person!
