The Holmes student section barely exists. Most of those sitting in that section are alumni or staff, trying their darndest to get the students to participate. It is very frustrating to see students sitting, and even more frustrating that they often have no idea what is going on in the game. It is an exciting time for Holmes and the students should be eating that up.

 

But someone also mentioned student spirit at other schools. It does seem to be an epidemic. School spirit and pride is certainly not what I remember as a student.

 

If anyone has the solution, you will be a very popular person!

I would say let them show school ID and get in for a dollar. Have school spirit night. Best dressed, half time show or dance squad. 50 cent hot dog night. Something. :popcorn:

Plenty of student support for Madison Central and Madison Southern Friday night. EKU's McBrayer Arena was packed and rowdy all night !:taz::laugh::ylsuper:

I know Holmes had spirit week this past week. But even picking up my niece on Friday, the lack of red and white coming from the building was sad.

 

I like the idea of pep rallies, even the ticket price cut...maybe for those in spirit wear, half time shows would be fun. There have to be some incentives unfortunately...but you also have to get staff involved. They are the role models that our kids follow. We had red and white day at one of the elementary schools and less than half the staff participated.

Cov Cath has one of the greatest student sections around (as seen in USA today). Could it have something to do with the fact they are an all boys school and it gives them a comman place to gather and socialize with the all grils school located across the street? What a better place to meet the opposite sex when you go to an all boys school?

Now with the addition of cell phones and texting, kids can stay in touch with each other without going to the games.

I think part of the problem is the scheduling. "Back in the day" you could depend on Tuesday and Friday night basketball games. This was a social event for kids as well as the community and the stands were filled. I know with all the Title laws this can't happen anymore, but I think that's why we have better Friday night football crowds (at least at our school).

Great point. I also heard the Title laws did not increase attendance for the girls games.

I think you are right. My question is, "is it possible to have a game every Tuesday and Friday in the gym, either boys or girls?" Our games are not double headers, so many times one is away while the other is home anyway. I think the kids might come out to the gym if they knew every Tuesday and Friday there was a game going on.

While watching HS playbook on Friday night, I noticed the size of the crowd for the BC/Ryle game. Looked like there were plenty of available seats, and that suprised me since both schools have high enrolment numbers, and are also bitter rivals.

I would like to see the boy basketball games back to Tuesday and Friday myself. Nothing against the girls basketball teams. I just prefer to watch the boys play.

Someone said Harrison Co's student section looked like the days of old in "The Stable" Friday night. Can anyone confirm?

All of the 37th district games had at least a decent crowd of students attend.
