You can't argue with success. They just keep winning. Not the time to change style of play, but this team with their size, speed, athleticism, length, skill, etc.. seems suited to a fast paced game. I would love to see them press and trap and get some easy baskets--but what do I know their going to Rupp to represent.

Just based on scores, should us outside of the program be concerned with Holmes going into the state tournament? They aren't scoring any points.

You would think so but I guess as long as they are scoring more than who they are playing then maybe not.

I was not at tonight's game, but if the New Cath game is any indication, their Sweet 16 trip will be short. Holmes cannot go through the motions for the first three quarters and then decide to turn it on in the fourth. That is a recipe for disaster against the caliber of teams down there.

You should be concerned because they are going to be the favorite to win the Tourney. Teams up here in the 9th know how to play the Dogs and 9th Region basketball was very good this season with their Top 3/4 teams being IMO Top 30 teams in the state.

Well that's what I was thinking. I'm sure the 9th region schools have a good grasp of how to beat Holmes - they just can't do it. My question was whether Holmes will pick up the offense at Rupp when facing other defenses, or if they were having offensive problems in general.

Congrats to Holmes, 32 points isn't much but if it gets you to Rupp who cares.

Both teams wanted to slow the ball down offensively to capitalize on every possession and work for good shots. Holmes and Boone both play outstanding defense so both coaches knew each and every possession was important.

 

Difference in the game was Pittman and Rico. Both showed why they're D1 prospects and big time players. They combined for 26 of Holmes' 32 points (13 each), with Rice chipping in with 4 and DJ with 2. Pittman and Rico were both HUGE down the stretch on both ends of the floor. Both had several blocked shots when Boone was trying to tie the game and Pittman made the final 2 free throws to seal the deal while also getting a big offensive rebound to put him at the line with Holmes up just 1.

 

Mcfarland and Gabbard combine for just 7 points and 3 of Mcfarland's 5 points came from the charity stripe.

 

BTW, look at the prediction thread...I believe someone said when it was all settled the Dogs would be cutting down the nets and Ricardo Johnson would add a 9th region MVP award to his collection.

 

Pittman, J. Johnson, and R. Johnson (MVP) made the all tourney team for Holmes.

 

Mcfarland and Brown made all tourney team for Boone.

Most of the time scores like this are simply bad offense, but both of these teams flat got after it on D tonight. Loved watching some of the chess matches going on between both teams...

Stuck around for the 1st quarter of this one after the 10th final. 6-4; but it was not a slowdown game - just lots of great defense.

If you weren't rooting for either team this was simply freaking dreadful to watch.

 

When the WINNING team barely hits 20 by the end of the 3rd....YUCK.

I'll buy Rico as a D1 player. I'm not buying Pittman as a D1 player yet. He can't score inside unless a 6'0 forward is on him and he can't create outside. His saving grace is being long-armed.

 

Rico is smooth.
