Willie Schlarman: Did He Coach His Last Game at Highlands Today?

Featured Replies

IMO this is Mike Code's job if he wants it. I agree that the next coach needs to get more involved with the youth of the community, but to be honest this has not happened since Shields coached there. Heck they cannot even get a 6th grade team at the middle school when virtually every school has one except for Beechwood. Is this Willie's fault or does it fall on the powers that be at Highlands? Hard to argue that he did not have success because he did not win a regional title. The last I checked Holmes has been to the state tourney the last 3 years and CovCath had some of their better teams in the 5 year span that Willie coached the Birds. So using this logic, every coach in the region has been unsuccessful except for David Henley and Mike Listerman.

I hope the Highlands search does not include Coach Mike Listerman. Coach L has taken his lumps over the past several years in Park Hills and has had to work to retain his position. Highlands is stacked next year, Cov. Cath. is (at least per their standards) in a rebuilding phase. The Bluebird faithful hold Coach L in great esteem, he would be following in the footsteps of his all-time #1 mentor Coach Shields, lives in the area, etc. etc. There are alot of factors to cause Coach L supporters in Park Hills some consternation. Best of luck to Coach Schlarman. I will miss watching him patrol the sidelines.

Why didn't HHS have a 6th grade team? Lack of interest?

Far from lack of interest...:deadhorse:

Do you think the Cooper Head Coach would be interested?

I am sure lots of people would be interested, but not sure how many could have a legitimate chance at the job!

Just heard from a very good source close to the program that Mike Code was offered the job at Highlands, but he turned it down and will stay with the Mustangs... :dancingpa

If true, that's pretty impressive loyalty. No question Highlands is a bigger, more high profile job. Props to coach Code. There aren't many like him left in the coaching business.

You're right... Mike Code is a special Coach and person.

With Code potentially out of the way, who would lead the list of candidates for the job?

I am sure Tim would want to stay at Cooper and help build that program.

I heard the exact opposite...:idunno:

The E-mail to the "Mustang faithful" confirming Code was offered and declined was forwarded to me. Seems credible. I also heard that Scott Draud has no interest returning to the sidelines.

Personally, I'd love to see Jeff Stowers at Highlands

That's a strong choice.
