Personally, I'd love to see Jeff Stowers at Highlands

 

Jeff Stowers would be an excellent choice. Great basketball family & one of the best coaches in the region - boys or girls.

 

I'd imagine he'd bring his son Brendan with him, too.

He would be, but how long would he stay? He seemed to hint in the article about him and Brendan that he was basically giving it a couple of more years and turning it over to Brendan. Would he be willing to stick around for as long as the faithful would like him to? He'd be a very good person to work side-by-side w/ Mueller, that's for sure. Very genial.

Brendan is not long for coaching in high school. He'll be in the college game soon.

I agree, he is a great person. Not to mention he has family in Ft. Thomas.

If true, that's pretty impressive loyalty. No question Highlands is a bigger, more high profile job. Props to coach Code. There aren't many like him left in the coaching business.

 

Yeah but HHS is in the 9th with you know who and Brossart is in the 10th. As good as HHS is, it is still going to be hard for someone to leave another region and come to the 9th to play for 2nd. Perhaps Willie was thinking the same thing. :thumb:

I agree but I dont think that is the reason he turned it down if he did. I think Code is pot committed out at Brossart and likes what he has built. They are a basketball school plain and simple no matter how you slice it.

Struggling to follow your logic here, but I think you're saying Coach Code is taking the easier path by staying in the 10th?? If so, this year aside, your logic is a little off base IMO; as consistantly the 9th, while undoubtably deeper, is hardly the tougher region to win?? The top team(s) in the 10th in the last several years have certainly been tougher than their counterparts in the 9th. Look no further than a Scott or Brossart's (who haven't been the top dogs in the 10th the last few years) record vs. the top teams in the 9th the last several years???

I'd think it came down to Mike wanting to stay with a program that he (and

Willie and others) built, that has a bright future; and undoubtably it doesn't hurt that BB is certainly a "basketball school" at this point (although the soccer, track, baseball, etc. programs might argue)??

 

Don't underestimate the ability to play for both the All "A" and Sweet Sixteen each year at a small school either, and the fact that there is a great support structure behind the head coach at Brossart; with Coach Schabell on hand to handle the business, broadcast, website, etc. side of the program that can bog down coaches at many HS's. Throw in an avid and very supportive (not counterproductive) parent group, internet radio broadcasts of every game, a college caliber website, etc. and it makes a very attractive situation!!

 

Good to see Coach Code make a decision based on principle, not on "What's in it for me" or "$$$$'s"--Rare in today's world!!! :thumb:

Just reporting the facts Sandman. I probably shouldnt have dismissed it prematurely because I always thought he was a great motivator and probably would devote himself to the entire program and not just the Varsity team. With that said, I have no clue on his track record after the 1990 state finals so that is why I probably dismissed it. I know he has bounced around the state at Ashland and Bourbon Co and most recently have seen him refereeing Middle School games.

Depends on what school you attend. :thumb: If a kid is a real competitor then 5th or 6th is the exact same thing as 2nd. Some schools would be happy with 2nd but at HHS I think nothing less than 1st is acceptable. It doesnt really matter imo in the 9th. Holmes will repeat as region champs if not repeat as State Champs, but if a coach wants to win a region and make an appearance in the Sweet 16 then he has a better shot in the 10th than the 9th and therefore his best current position is to stay out of the 9th for the time being.
