As long as the lower bowl is filled with people who want to make some noise, I think the atmosphere is okay.

I thought they did what a lot of the stadiums/arena these days are doing and that is getting a not for profit group(s) to run a concession stand (section) and then pay the not for profit group for working. True the people are indeed volunteers but they are getting paid in a sense for the work that they are doing. It works out great for both the not for profit group as well as the stadium/arena people. Is this correct?

Yes your are correct Old Guy. I know Campbell County football was working it today, also I saw Silver Grove there today working it.

I agree... everyone talks about atmosphere..it is the fans and teams that make it. I know our band was not there today, but hope they will be there Monday. I feel the bands make a huge difference in the atmosphere of the games.

 

I agree as well. Atmosphere is what the fans, teams, and bands make it. If you set on your duff and don't clap and scream for your school then the atmosphere is going to be dead. Watch Monday night when school fight songs are played and see how many stand up and clap. I bet it will be very few. Just dosen't seem to be the the same spirit as in the past from a majority of schools.

But it is alot of give and take. I will give up some of the atmosphere to have a nice chairback seat and plenty of room. Plus, you can go out on the concourse and actually move around and stretch your legs. I only had to wait about 2 minutes at the concession stand. I enjoyed today and liked the BOK. Ask the majority of players today what they thought. I'm sure they will tell you it was a great experience. Isn't that what it is all about? Plus, it is a neutral court. Which many on here have been calling for for years. IMO I think the pros outweigh the cons.

I talked to a Campbell County parent today and they said it was negotiated in the deal the opportunity for all the schools in the 37th to have first chance at working concessions. That way all the schools in the distirct got a chance to make money from the event.

I noticed that you left right after the GRC game and came in right before. What's wrong, not in the mood to pay $3.00 for a box of popcorn?

1. Beautiful venue. But not for a high school basketball game.

 

2. Don't ever take a little bag of gummy bears from a child as they enter a high school basketball game and NO it wasn't my child.

 

3. Ushers were rude!!!!

 

4. Make decisions prior to the beginning of the tournament. We were told at the beginning of game 1 that we could move into Deming's section only to be told by a rude usher with only 4:00 minutes left in the game that we had to move so that the seats could sit empty. The "management" changed their mind. :irked: Oh and guess what, some of the Scott fans had moved into our seats. HAVE OPEN SEATING!!!!!!!!

 

5. Food was WAY too expensive. I only paid $1.50 for a pop last year and this year they were $4.00. Talk about inflation.

 

6. The 10th region has lost the atmosphere that has always made it a special tournament.

 

7. I'm one of the few that stayed for all 4 games. Sugar Momma and the little one left to go to the mall, so I guess we paid $12.00 for 2 games for those tickets. In the past 2 years it would have only been $10.00 for the 2 games.

 

Thought? Is Mason County or Montgomery Co. going to check purses for illegal contraband (food) next year?:laugh: I've taken McDonalds food in there before.

I too thought that everything went well today at the BOKC.

 

Mr. Kevin Contardo was very gracious in accomodating all of the radio/internet media on hand for the four games, and readily available to iron out any difficulties that any of us encountered.

 

The 10th Region produced programs and T-Shirts that were noticably absent for the 9th Region games. The crowds turned out to support their teams, and they too were larger than that experienced by the 9th Region teams during prime time on Wednesday and Thursday.

 

While I am very much a traditionalist when it comes to the 10th Regon Tournament being held at the central Mason County Fieldhouse location, It was enjoyable watching our athletes compete in such a spacious, well-appointed facility, and an experience that they will never forget, and I was pleased to see that the fans from Mount Sterling and Winchester turn out for the opening round games.

 

It will be interesting to see what the Monday night semis and Tuesday night's finals bring.

Nice facility, great chairs. Just not a good high school atmosphere, yet. Maybe it will get better in the next rounds. Arena staff was a bit overbearing at times.

I saw two cinderalla's (Deming and ST Pat) make the big giants wonder what the heck was going on with the game.

 

Scott came out and took care of business en route to a 70-49 victory so I don't understand the post at all here. I'll agree with the GRC/St. Pat game though.

From what I hear out of Deming (a school in the 38th) that has already been decided. Plus I heard a lot of their fans complaining today as well.
