February 27, 200917 yr The question is......at what point to you come to the realization that, for whatever reason or reasons, our coach is waywayway over his head in the total job description of the Head Basketball Coach at the University of Kentucky? The coach that was co SEC Coach of the Year last year? The coach that was a two time Big12 coach of the year? The coach who has kids lined up 4 years out wanting to play for him? Everybody is frustrated at the losses, but come on. Has everyone forgotten the losing streaks to Florida and Vandy that were going on before BCG got here? The guy has an excellent class coming in next year and theres a strong chance every significant contributor from this year will return. If he doesn't have it together after next season, I'll start asking questions.

My issues with him aren't as much about wins and losses as much as other things involving his job performance. That includes lots of other things, too numerous to even mention, but we have all seen them in one way or another. My point is, regardless if he brought in Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, and LeBron James to wear the Blue and White, these other issues are going to exist. He is obvious he is not a good fit at the University of Kentucky, when is it best to make a change?
February 27, 200917 yr We could look at a trade in the manners of Billy G. for a washing machine. (Semi-Pro).... It seemed to work out ok for the Tropics............. I'm not convinced Billy can't get the job done, I just like to add some Jackie Moon into my day when ever possible.

How many head coaches in college basketball have huge egos and are more often times than not arrogant jerks? Answer: All of them. They have to be. To accept such a job (of which I gurantee he is aware of the pressures and culture of), you have some of that in you. Tubby was good with the media but was stubborn. Pitino was and is today a jerk. Calhoun is, Roy Williams is, etc., etc. Does BCG stink in front of a camera. Yes, he does. I personally do not like it. Until his conduct on/off camera is truly detrimental to the team or University, I am willing to overlook these faults that all of these coaches virtually have for a while and give him a shot.

I haven't heard any new drinking/womanizing rumors recently, so either he stopped or they weren't true to begin with. IIRC, Lee Todd even refuted several rumors directly. There have been several stories of BCG being generous with his money. Outside of wins and losses (which really aren't terrible when you look at them), I'm not sure what your issue is. Seriously, if things aren't better in a year, I'll be very concerned, and if he makes it 2 years without significant improvement, I'll be calling for his head too.
February 27, 200917 yr I havent read all of this thread... but all I can say on any BCG thread is give the guy atleast enough time to get his players in before we completely rip him. Things he does are questionable but I can honestly get a good read on a guy until his players are playing in his system. Right now the Cats have two guys that are stars and then no one else who is consistently serviceable. That wont cut it. Its 5 on 5, not 5 on 2.
February 27, 200917 yr Some 18 months ago, a friend in Bowling Green and a Western season-ticket holder was telling me that Horn was taking some heat because he hadn't exactly endeared himself to some of the red-towel faithful. As the story goes, he isn't always Mr. Nice Guy, either. Bottom line ... Gillispie was hired to win basketball games, even if he isn't the nicest guy around. He's done an all right job of winning games, and had a quality team last year that was decimated by injuries.

February 27, 200917 yr Coaching record aside, their is a lot more responsibility to this job that he is paid over $2 million per year to perform. He isn't close to holding up his end of the unsigned agreement. He's paid 2 million to win ball games and cut down nets. I would like to think he should get more than a couple of seasons to have that chance.
February 27, 200917 yr I'm not the biggest Gillispie fan, but neither am I sold on Darrin Horn. I see him in the same light as Pelphrey & Travis Ford--two names that would immediately bubble up to the top in the eyes of many, if BCG left or was relieved of his duties. Horn, like Pelphrey & Ford, may turn into a quality coach, but has yet to prove anything consistently over time. That takes experience and years. So I'm not sold on him yet; and yes, he did inherit Downey, whereas BCG inherited Porter. Big difference.
