Who thinks Elliott County's run at state is legit?

Featured Replies

Elliott beating Ballard and having a strong schedule to me shows that they are the real deal. I believe they go in as a top 3 team no matter who wins the other regions. They can do it but there are a couple other teams that have just as much potential and alo expect to win one.

In my opinion, this thread is unneccessary. Of course, Elliott County is one of a handful of teams with a shot to win the state title. While I wouldn't pick them to win if I had to pick one team, they are definitely and without question in the argument. If you think otherwise, you are just trying to beat them up for no reason.

I agree 100%. Elliott had some doubts with scheduling, etc. They handled those doubts by showing they can beat the big boys. They have to be considered one of the favorites, but they have a difficult draw and a short bench. Both factors will make it difficult, but not impossible, to win 4 games in a row. That being said, I'll pick Elliott to win the whole thing.

Although Scott County has been beat this year, they are a 4-5 favorite to win the state championship. Way too much talent.

You've got to have a little luck on your side, IMO, if your going to win the state tournament. If EC doesn't find a break or two then they probably won't win.

And I'll add that all of these teams have alot of work remaining just to make it to Rupp. Scott county will be facing some very good teams in their own region.

I agree they can take it all, but lady luck will have to be on their side.

As as for Holmes or Scott Co. or whoever else make's it to the big dance.

Elliott has a very legit shot.

IF Elliott is fortunate enough to make it to Rupp along with the 15 other region representatives, they have a good shot at winning it. It won't be easy though. They'll likely have to beat Anderson Co in the first round, who was beating them at the half I believe and then forced OT with them. Second round they'll likely see Shelby Valley, who has already beaten them. Semi's, barring an upset, they'll see either Holmes or Scott Co, who in a lot of peoples' opinion, are the top two teams in the state. Then, IF they make it to the finals, they'd likely see another 7th region team. IF they can make it to the finals, I can see the cutting down the nets, as I really don't see anyone from the upper bracket beating them..

The one advantage I do see for EC is that they won't have to beat both Scott Co and Holmes to get to the finals.

:thumb: I agree with the whole post, but would add the bolded part would still be tough if they make it there. Playing the late game Friday would have to show some effect in the second game Saturday. I do agree it may still be easier than the possible Saturday morning matchup.

-Can they?: Yes.

-Will they?: I don't know. :idunno:

-Are they a talented cohesive team?: Yes.

-Are they experienced?: Yes.

-Will this be their 3rd consecutive trip to the Sweet 16?: Yes.

-Does that matter?: You Bet it does.

-Are they driven?: Completely.

-Can they run with anyone?: They ran with Ballard, that's good enough for me.

-Do they play with a purpose?: Every time they step foot on the court.

-Do they have a winner mentality?: One of the best examples of one.

-Do they want it bad?: You know they do.

-Can they put up some points?: Highest average in the state.

-Can they look to next year?: There is no next year.

-Do they have any small town self-doubt?: Not in the least.

-Do they ever show much in the ways of lapses in games or throughout the season?: Not that I've ever seen mentioned.

I don't know, they seem like a really well oiled machine to me with a lot of never say die attitude, with a serious amount of talent to back it up.

-Do I want them to win the Sweet 16?: Down deep, I think I really do. It's a great story and makes for some great memorable basketball.

One thing for sure is that they won't go down easy so it's not so much who they have to get by, it's who has to get by them. :thumb:

:thumb: This is an excellent post!

Assuming they get by EC, EC has a shot but they did not win the All A. So, I say it is a fair shot. Lack of easy baskets by a dominating center and lack of depth will be their demise. Sweet Sixteen is more difficult to win than the All A. As one other poster said, deep down inside it would be wonderful to see a tiny school win it all.

It will probably be Corbin representing the 13th Region this season. The Redhounds are a very talented team and are rated in the top 10. Plus, they are deep, too. South Laurel did beat them earlier this season, but the Cardinals might not even get past Whitley County in the first round of the 50th District Tournament.

As for you comments about me seeing the future, go ahead and be that way, this forum is for people to express their opinions and I did just that. I'm sorry if I don't believe Elliott County won't win state. Doesn't mean it will happen. But I am happy that you put my thoughts in such high regard though.

Well, if we can't have Elliott County as the cinderella team what are your thoughts on Corbin? Or how about a Elliott County vs Corbin final? Hey, with a little luck anything is possible!

Well West is playing better. Even though East is playing better they have not been what I thought they were going to be this year.

Who is playing better than East right now besides Elliott? They are probably #2 in the region right now, along with the other 2 62nd district teams right behind them.

They definitely have a legit shot to make a run at a state title, but I don't think they will take the crown. I'm thinking more along the lines of Scott Co. or Holmes.

Nice post...:thumb:

You didn't ruin my day. I don't know if Elliott County will win the state or not. Heck they might not make it out of the district. But I thought by the way your last post sounded that you could see the future or something. I thought you might just go ahead and fill everyone in on who the next state champs were.

BTW, I look forward to watching South Laurel play in the state tournament this year.

Most people would agree with you but there are several other teams that can't be ruled out!
