I think you have to include both Oldham County and Shelby County in that list. Those two schools have combined to win two thirds of the 8th region titles since 1976 (each has won 10 or 11 titles during that time).

St. Henry beat SK in the finals Neltner's senior year. HHS only lost 3 games that year, from what I remember. CovCath, Mason County (defending state champ) and SK in the region.

 

Ryle won region his junior year. I'm thinking that NCC won it in '01, or did HHS win it with Guidugli?

 

I've never thought about it before, but I'm shocked that Neltner won Mr. Basketball without having played in Rupp very often. HHS must have won in '01.

 

I agree that HHS has been one of the top programs in the state the past 25 years.

 

2003 was Neltner's Sr Yr and St. Henry won it that year. 2002 was Neltner's Junior year and Ryle and Doleman won. 2001 Highlands beat Conner in the Finals, he was a very good sophmore, but not dominant yet. NCC was beat early. 2000 NCC did make it with Ronny Dawn as a Junior.

In the 9th, it would be Holmes, CCH, and Highlands with the nod going to Highlands.

And they would be wrong. Heck Goldie just told you that Clark Co. just won their 1st Regional Tournament in 20 years two years ago. Ashland has 5 regional titles in the last 25 years, as well as a State Runner Up finish. How in the world can anyone say Clark Co. has had more success in the past 25 years based on those numbers? Please don't tell me you're going to join the list of members that can't admit that they are wrong.

Clark hasn't even dominated their own district the past 25 years. At one point in the late 80's early 90's Montgomery was the dominant team in the 40th. In fact, I think from 1986-87 (Bart Rison's first year at Montgomery) to 2006-7 (his final year) Montgomery won 12 district titles.

Yes they are. I remember that Scott 1989 team with Chris Haynes, the Smiths, Kirby. We got em in 1st round of Regionals. I think they ended up beating Holy Cross in finals. That has to be the only time they got close to a Regional title outside of last year in the 10th right?

Define "top program"? In the 10th region, Mason, Clark, and Montgomery are there year end and year out. Do they go have to win the region to be a top program? Look at the powerhouses in the 11th. Anyone of these teams could be considered a top program.

Although they have not had much success recently, Harlan's run in the 13th region in the nineties has got to get them in the running. 4 Regional titles one trip to the semis and seven or eight All A Regional titles, plus two Class A State Titles, not to shabby by Coach Mike Jones and his boys.

If everyone on here would take a look at their favorite school and see how long they have been in existance, then if possible, see what their overall record is. If your winning percentage is above 65 to 70%, If you have won 6 or 7 out of every 10 Districts, if you have won 4 or 5 out of every 10 Regionals, and say you play consistantly on Fridays and Saturdays at the State Tournament then your a top program. Your team may not be the best in the region every year, but if your opponents know they have you to go through you each year consisitantly with your schools reputation, then I think that's what makes you a top program in the state. It's late, and I hope I didn't ramble, but I hope everyone gets what I'm trying to say. Mason Co. has been in existance for 49 yrs. and sumoroyal helped make up a record book, kind of like UK's yearbook, we have won over 1000 games, 30 plus Districts, somewhere between 12 to 15 Regionals(all after 1981), 2 runner-ups, and 2 championships, 2 Mr. Basketballs, and 1 Coach of the Year. I am not saying we are the gold standard to go by so don't take it that way, but if you can compare your schools records to ours then maybe that will give you guidelines to go by.

I think 25 years is too broad of a span. Coaches come and go. New schools are built within counties. Maybe a thread should be started for each of the following: 70s, 80s, 90s, and the present decade. Could be interesting to compare the threads.
