I agree you can not leave Paintsville or Clay Co out. Also Corbin has had a lot of success.

I forgot Owensboro, if my mind doesn't leave me, they have made the most trips to the Sweet 16 of any school in the state.

Clay County has been the 13th region's most successful program over the last 25 years. I don't know the exact count for their region titles but I would guess at least half of them. Clay County's stranglehold on the 13th region was finally broken in 2002 and they have not won the region in the last seven years.

Perry Central out of the 14th. Followed by Hazard.

Throw Highlands in the mix. I know they have made several Sweet 16 appearances in the last 25 yrs. One trip to the Finals with Glaser/Smith/Lorenzen in late 90's. Neltner took them their during his tenure and earned Mr.

 

St. Henry beat SK in the finals Neltner's senior year. HHS only lost 3 games that year, from what I remember. CovCath, Mason County (defending state champ) and SK in the region.

 

Ryle won region his junior year. I'm thinking that NCC won it in '01, or did HHS win it with Guidugli?

 

I've never thought about it before, but I'm shocked that Neltner won Mr. Basketball without having played in Rupp very often. HHS must have won in '01.

 

I agree that HHS has been one of the top programs in the state the past 25 years.

A couple of other Louisville schools that I didn't see, but maybe I skipped over are PRP and Fairdale. I know Fairdale had a real good run there in the early 90's and have been back to Rupp recently, and PRP always seems to come up just a little short when they get to The Sweet 16, but I believe they won it in '89 if im not mistaken.

I have no statistical information to support my claim but I think that most people across the state would say that Clark Co. has had more success over the past 25 years.

Ashland has 5 regional titles in the last 25 years, as well as a State Runner Up finish. How in the world can anyone say Clark Co. has had more success in the past 25 years based on those numbers? Please don't tell me you're going to join the list of members that can't admit that they are wrong.

If regional championships is the barometer then I will agree with you but then Boyd Co. has the better program than Ashland. You cannot tell me that you believe for 1 second that Ashland would have 4 regional titles if they were in the same region as Mason Co.

No I'm not going to argue that. Like I said, I agreed with just about everything you stated, but I couldn't figure out why you had listed Clark County with the other group of schools as having a lot of success in your lifetime.

I think 25 years is too broad of a span. Coaches come and go. New schools are built within counties. Maybe a thread should be started for each of the following: 70s, 80s, 90s, and the present decade. Could be interesting to compare the threads.
