Clay County vs. North Laurel predictions
nedreader replied to nedreader's topic in KY Football (High School)
Their coach makes adjustments at halftime and also gives them a "nice" talk... at least that would be my guess. Arnett is a prior defensive coach and learned under one of the best high school coaches in the nation(Bill Castle- Lakeland, Fla.) If you notice, Clay tends to give up most of their pts. in the 1st half. Clay has given up 117 pts. this year with only 38(close estimate) of those coming in the 2nd half. So, either they make great adjustments or their team is in better shape... or both. -

Yes, that's who the paper listed... Skinpig, just two days ago you stated that it was looking more and more like Wright would be the coach. What changed so soon? -

When Richie & Russ were there along with Russ Chadwell there was some talent... but no McDonald's All Americans. Chadwell didn't even play much on the varsity level until his junior year. In '90, you had Collins, Blair, & T. Gray as seniors & Marcum and Smith as sophomores. They were all "home grown" and went to the final four where they lost to Louisville Fairdale by about 10. Fairdale was loaded with Maurice Morris, Jermaine Brown(Darrell Griffith's son) and Carlos Turner(6'6" PG). If not for Fairdale, Clay would have had a good chance at the title that year. Fairdale won the title again the next year. That was 20 years ago and the program has been on a steady decline since for various reasons... but the history is still there. With a little bit of success, the fan support and backing from the community would be right back. I like to compare it to the UK program. Anything less than the Sweet 16 IS a failure at Clay Co. 20 wins and a district championship just doesn't cut it... and rightfully so. That's what kind of program it used to be. People didn't realize what Coach Keith did with not-so-great talent and became accustomed to not only going to the Sweet 16, but usually winning at least a game or two there.
