I think it had something to do with the weekend the finals will be played. Papa Johns could not guantee that it would be available therefore they did not submit a bid for the championships.

Basically Mayfield is Western Ky...Which is 161 miles from B.G.

Yea...The fair they have there is called The SOKY Fair...

I know this topic has been discussed in this and a myriad of other threads, but I think people will be pleasantly surprised when they attend the '09 championships at WKU. The new stadium is very nice, the city of Bowling Green is friendly, full of restaurants and night spots AND it's no longer just a small college town.

Everybody usually hates change, but, before we all proclaim gloom and doom, let's give Bg a shot next year, then decide whether it was all a big mistake, or not.

but "stomping the towel" doesen't have the same feel.

I look forward to it and think people will come away from Bowling Green with a positive experience - except the northern Kentucky people who will have an added 90 minutes added to their drive.

Having missed all but two games of the entire season for the Fort Campbell Falcons, I'll go anywhere that they play.

 

I think it's a nice change. It may be smaller, it may not have the aura of Johnny Unitas, but it's the state championship game, what's bigger than that regardless of where it's played?

Maybe NKU could get off thier butt's and start a football team and the state finals could alternate every couple years or so. NKU, EKU, UL, WKU, etc, just a thought, but I am sure BG will be a fine host.

I think that Western Kentucky University and the city of Bowling Green will be just fine.

Bowling Green will be a great place. The schools that are in will show up and the fact that it is smaller than Papa John's may actually allow for the fans to be louder. I expect that those who go will still go and it's good for the folks in South Central Kentucky who may have never been able to just slide away from work to catch the finals. It'll also give Bowling Green High a little extra motivation.:thumb:

When you are located on the Mountians of Eastern KY Bowling Green is Western Kentucky mostly because Western Kentucky University is there.......Wonder why they did not name WKU, Southern Kentucky University??

 

 

I look forward to the games there, although I wonder about Motels, Hotels and such. I heard several folks in Louisville wondering the same thing. I am not as familiar with BG as Louisville but I am sure that once people get used the change they may not want to change back.

I cannot see this being an issue. Football does not draw massive crowds and I would say a good portion will turn around and go home after their team plays.

 

A lot overestimate how many people attend these games and stay overnight.
