Then let's cut down the number of teams who make the postseason in all sports (except football which is the only sport where every team does not make the postseason). This will cut a week off the season and they can start practice later thereby reducing the overlap! :thumb:

What does cutting the number of teams in the basketball playoffs have to do with anything? Actually, the number has probably been cut in half since the 1940s. Basketball always ends the week before baseball starts, which is when football should end. I'm sure the casual fan would rather not deal with the kind of weather we can have in December. You almost never had to worry about the weather in relation to the football playoffs until recently.

No one suggest cutting football. It just should return to the way it always was.

Again, starting next year, all but 24 schools will be finished by before Thanksgiving. For that matter, most of those 24 schools are usually the same suspects and they don't care about basketball anyway. They view basketball as something to do between the end of football season and the start of spring practice.

Yea, Lexington is known for its support and strong high school football.:rolleyes:

Be sacastic all you want. If the games were in Lexington attendance would be better. I hope I'm wrong but I believe the attendance at BG will be the lowest in a long time.

No, attendance would not be better. Lexington is a terrible football town in comparison to Louisville, and a lot of that has to do with the fact that Lex HS FB is traditionally not very good, and that UK has traditionally been terrible in FB.

Would too, would too.:flame::argue::fight:

They are only in the state semi's in football this week in Texas. Tell them that football season is too long.

Florida is only in the Semi's as well.

I don't think there's ever been any confusion over what those states' priorities are when it comes to HS sports. Just like Kentucky; just that Kentucky's priority has never been football.

With the finals ending on Dec. 13, are you sure its not on football?:D

Personally I love high school sports and football is maybe the one that I enjoy the most. I do think the football season is too long, I think you should shorten it back to the way the playoffs were in the early 80's. I can remember playing the State Championship game Thanksgiving weekend. But this is my complaint, you have teams playing that do not belong in the playoffs and athletes are taking a chance on getting hurt in this games. The people that hurt the most are the fans. For example, it was the first time Hazard has made it to the State Championships, and from what I am hearing not many fans could make it because they got snowed in. That is terrible for those fans and players. This is supposed to be a reward for the fans and players, and because KHSAA wants to have extra playoff games because all kids "need to feel like winners". Reality check!! When we get out in the real world not every one is going to have the job that pays them six figures a year. I don't understand the KHSAA at times, you extend the football season so that is is playing in the beginning part of basketball season, and then during the basketball season you have these kids play their hearts out for 3.5 months go through a grueling basketball post season to make the Sweet 16 and their reward play 4 games over a four day period and one of those days that have to play 2 games, and one of them os the State Championship, something these kids have worked hard for. Why because they can't play on Sunday. That is crazy, shorten the football season to mean something and make the Sweet 16 even better.

5 months for both.Seems pretty equal.

Don't get me wrong — I think it's great that football has improved across the board in Kentucky. Especially when you consider how many more top-notch FB prospects the state produces as opposed to basketball. But all I have to do is look at the crowds at the football finals and the Sweet 16 and it isn't too hard to figure out what this state's priority still is, and likely will always be.

There was a thread a couple years back asking people if they continued to attend games and/or keep up with the football playoffs once their team got beat out, and the overwhelming response was "no." That's clearly not the case in basketball, however.

I just think the city of Lexington would support it more, which would increase attendance.

Do you have any proof of, or reason to believe this whatsoever?
