The funds for football equipment are not payed out each year. Uniforms, equipment, cleats, etc are reused from year to year. These purchases (at least at Greenup) do not come from the school but from the Booster Club. All the gate goes to the school, and funds the other programs.

There are a couple of reasons for this and KY being a basketball state isn't one of them.

 

1. Indoor

2. Social Activity rather than avid enthusists.

3. Tradition

4. Perfect setup of Rupp Arena being connected to the Hyatt, back to the social aspect.

5. Did I mention it is indoors and warm.

6. People can drink.

 

I agree. Number 6 is a big plus.I also think if football finals were in Lexington attendance would increase 25%. It seems like 75% of the people in Louisville do not even know high school football finals are going on. Also, sixteen schools being represented will draw more that six schools. The number of students at the Sweet 16 is far greater than the football championships.

Take out bye weeks and eliminate one non-conf game. If it is hot early in season, start the games a bit later in the evening. An 8:30 start time on a Friday night is no big deal.

 

Saying the football season is too long is bordering on blasphemy! Football IS the 'real man's sport'.

 

I really like the idea of starting the early season games at 830pm on Fridays and cutting out these early season Saturday afternoon games due to the heat. We agree on that. The only problem may be some of these double header bowl games early on, but that could be adjusted if need be.

 

I have no problem taking out the bye week (think it has been voted on already), but taking out a non district game is reducing it to 9 games. I can't go for that, EVER. Don't cheat the kids out of a game (10% of their season) because a few schools overlap with basketball.

 

Why not just not allow every team in the postseason in basketball, say just take the top 2 from each district and start with regionals.

I just think the city of Lexington would support it more, which would increase attendance. If the season is really to long, which I don't think it is, cutting it back 1 week would not be the answer.I could deal with no bye week, take top 3 to playoffs with 1 seed getting a bye. This however would mean the 1 seed would lose gate money and some feel they need it to support the other programs.

No matter how much you love high school football, there should be reasonable limits.

The season always ended Thanksgiving weekend until recently and it should still end then. It's too cold and nasty to play high school football in mid December. No other high school sport that I can think of extends its season into another, and practice does not count.

I love High School football.

 

That said I'm ready for it to be over. I agree the season should be done by Thanksgiving.

Then let's cut down the number of teams who make the postseason in all sports (except football which is the only sport where every team does not make the postseason). This will cut a week off the season and they can start practice later thereby reducing the overlap! :thumb:
