JC could almost score at will against highlands. Highlands could almost score at will against JC. The differance was how quickly highlands could do it. Highlands had no answer for JC's running game. The differance was deffinatley the stripped ball ran back for a touch down. (Big man got some wheels!) I left the game feeling like JC can play with anyone but Highlands big play capability was deffinatley the differance in the game and showed who was the better team. Another huge differance in the game was the personnell going both ways for each team. In the fourth quater collinsworth was the only player I saw for highlands who was winded. Jc had way more people going both ways and were spent. We have great young players at JC. We have at least three soph's and one fresh that start on defence. Our seniors played great and I applaud their effort, but the rest of the state is going to have to contend with JC for awhile. ON a side note I hope the Highland faithful could see that Ian Welch should be first team all state with the way he covered Collinsworth all night who had very good speed and probably the best route runner I have seen in high school. I may be a homer but I feel Chace Richardson (#7) should be an all-stater also. In the end Highlands had too many weapons for a young JC team to cover. Best of luck to you. Highlands made JC work very hard for their yards and scores. Nothing easy given to the Eagles, so forgive me if I disagree with your statement that the Eagles could score at will. Having said that, I saw from the Eagles exactly what I expected: a very, very tough football team. Just a great group of kids and coaches. Great jobs Eagles and great season. Don't hang your heads at all. You have a lot, a whole lot to be proud of.:thumb: Seniors, take the lessons that Matney taught you about hard work and committment and apply them to the rest of your lives. Those lessons worked for you in football and they will work for you in everything you hope to accomplish in your future.

The Eagles can be proud of a great season. You played a good game against the best team 5A has to offer.

I cant believe I am up at this hour. What a great trip down and back. Hangin with a bunch of BGPers and watching a great football game was the best.

 

Congrats to the Birds for persevering and taking advantage of the JC weaknesses. The secondary had no answers for the Birds receivers and the line gave TG all night. That field goal was certainly good and I had a great vantage point. It was obvious we were in the mountains at that point and nothing you can do about that.

 

Kody Rosenhagen made the play of the game so kudos to him for that burst of speed in taking it to the house. Great players make great plays when teams need them to and that was a fantastic play.

Everybody disagrees with calls at times, but alleging cheating by the refs just because you are "in the mountains" is offensive to the good people at JC that do a great job and I think it was a really weak thing to say.

I said earlier in the week that HHS would be able to pass ALL NIGHT long and their db's wouldn't be able to cover our receivers. Well, Highlands was able to pass ALL NIGHT against JC. Give credit to the Eagles though. They were able to run with some success against our Birds and the Richardson kid had a HUGE game. As everyone expected though, a poor passing game was their downfall. 4 passes, 2 int's.

 

Soph. Gold stepped up HUGE with the 3rd td of the game.

 

TG was able to pick the JC secondary apart all night so kudos to his line for giving him enough time to throw the ball. Not bad for a qb who's too slow in the pocket.

 

If big Kody wasn't player of the game, I don't know who was. He did it all and came up with the biggest play of the game. As Chris Berman says, "he went uh rumblin', bumblin', stumblin' all the way to the house."

 

Highlands proved why they're the best team in the state last night but honestly I don't see anyone else threatening them. This was the state championship IMO.

BTW, I think Welz deserves a lot of credit for the way he stepped in at TE for injured Roller. He also had a big td reception to get us on the board early.

Again, and it was mentioned all week long, HHS 'Football Speed" is unbelieveable. You just can't imagine it until you see it. HHS may not have the same talent level as X or Trinity from top to bottom, but they are very close

 

Mega-Kudos to the offensive line for giving Tony Guidugli all night to throw. Tony looked awesome. Several beautiful passes including hitting Daniel Gold in stride for the long TD, the sweet pass to Nick Buten. The TD to Kyle Welz & the throwback to Josh Conner..

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. - About the only thing that didn't go right for Highlands senior Kody Rosenhagen Friday night was a missed 24-yard field-goal attempt.

 

Rosenhagen more than made up for that with the rest of his kicking duties, as well as his play on the offensive and defensive lines, as the Bluebirds won the Class 5A Region 3 championship with a 35-21 victory at Johnson Central.

 

The game was tied at 7 at halftime, but Highlands needed just seven offensive plays to get three touchdowns, to go along with Rosenhagen's forced fumble and 73-yard return for a score in the second half, and break open the game.

 

The Bluebirds (12-1) will travel to play at Whitley County (12-1) next Friday in the state semifinals, hoping to earn a shot at the program's 18th state championship. Whitley County beat Letcher County Central 38-8 Friday night.

Im sorry but I had to laugh. That is exactly what I said last night when they called that no good. Seriously. Ask Strike 3 I think he was in the vicinity.

 

Ok, well I am not saying that they threw the call but its obvious that you are not going to get any calls when traveling to far away places. It was probably a tough call from their position. From my position on the track at the far end of the field you could clearly see it go high and just make it. Thankfully the Birds got the ball coming out at halftime and threw the quick strike.

 

I guess I was just a little irked myself at some of the local deputies giving some of my friends a hard time on the sidelines and then making a comment that they hoped our team lost. :lol:

Richardson gained 161 yards on 13 carries, but 102 of those yards came in the first half.

 

A big kudos needs to go out to the HHS coaching staff for the way they were able to make adjustments at halftime. Just goes to show why we have some of the best in the state coaching our boys.

Eta....I think you got carried away. There is this team called Louisville St. Xavier that beat Elder who beat Colerain who beat Highlands handily. Last night nthey blasted a very good Dupont Manual Team.

Will Bardo & Austin Collinsworth on D did a fabulous job keeping the long plays from being TD's.

 

THIS is, IMHO, the reason HHS got the victory. JC did an outstanding job with the "belly second man". Their backs were rumbling unabated in the Bluebird secondary. If Will and Austin don't make the tackles, it's a score for sure! And if JC got the lead....it's a whole different scenario! "BEND BUT DON"T BREAK!!"
