Im sorry but I had to laugh. That is exactly what I said last night when they called that no good. Seriously. Ask Strike 3 I think he was in the vicinity.

 

Ok, well I am not saying that they threw the call but its obvious that you are not going to get any calls when traveling to far away places. It was probably a tough call from their position. From my position on the track at the far end of the field you could clearly see it go high and just make it. Thankfully the Birds got the ball coming out at halftime and threw the quick strike.

 

I guess I was just a little irked myself at some of the local deputies giving some of my friends a hard time on the sidelines and then making a comment that they hoped our team lost. :lol:

I'm sure you, Boom, and sweeperboy were doing nothing wrong at all though...Good thing J'Lo was there to keep you guys out of trouble.

I said earlier in the week that HHS would be able to pass ALL NIGHT long and their db's wouldn't be able to cover our receivers. Well, Highlands was able to pass ALL NIGHT against JC. Give credit to the Eagles though. They were able to run with some success against our Birds and the Richardson kid had a HUGE game. As everyone expected though, a poor passing game was their downfall. 4 passes, 2 int's.

 

Soph. Gold stepped up HUGE with the 3rd td of the game.

 

TG was able to pick the JC secondary apart all night so kudos to his line for giving him enough time to throw the ball. Not bad for a qb who's too slow in the pocket.

 

If big Kody wasn't player of the game, I don't know who was. He did it all and came up with the biggest play of the game. As Chris Berman says, "he went uh rumblin', bumblin', stumblin' all the way to the house."

 

Highlands proved why they're the best team in the state last night but honestly I don't see anyone else threatening them. This was the state championship IMO.

BTW, I think Welz deserves a lot of credit for the way he stepped in at TE for injured Roller. He also had a big td reception to get us on the board early.

 

He did what many receivers in HS do not do and that is identify that Gudugli was scrambling back the other way and he readjusted his route to help out. Many times you see kids just stand with their hands up saying throw it here, throw it here. Welz could be a big force next season at TE right next to Grubbs.

 

BTW- Kody wasnt bumbling or stumbling. He was flat out getting it down the field. I couldnt believe the speed of that kid.

I would also be remiss if I didn't mention the OUTSTANDING defensive game played by Oliver Head. Seemed Ollie was making every tackle in the first half...not good to have to do, but I love the way he HITS!! Way to go "O-Head" !!

Eta....I think you got carried away. There is this team called Louisville St. Xavier that beat Elder who beat Colerain who beat Highlands handily. Last night nthey blasted a very good Dupont Manual Team.

 

Actually if you re-read my post, you'll realize I was talking about best team in 5A. And Louisville X didn't beat Elder. Trinity beat CINCY ST. X who lost to Colerain. Thanks for the info though.

They were behaving, had a great time with them....:thumb:

 

This was a very physical game and numerous, hard hits both blocking and in tackling. Both teams were trading scores and then the fumble, made the margin two scores.

 

Got to give a lot of credit, to Highlands offensive line for the time, they allowed the QB.

Field goal was wide right I have looked at the video several times. The problem if you can call it a problem is that Kody kicks them so high it is hard to tell if it is between the uprights

Come on gryche11. Are you saying you never disagree with the refs when the game is played in NKY or Lexington or Louisville? Was your great vantage better than the referees'?

 

Everybody disagrees with calls at times, but alleging cheating by the refs just because you are "in the mountains" is offensive to the good people at JC that do a great job and I think it was a really weak thing to say.

 

So 'tusi you never been on the road and thought you might have got a little home cooking? :lol: Truthfully in football it is difficult to know what the ref saw / didn't saw (uh see) when they make calls, but Highlands was certainly hurt by several key calls along the way.

 

Earlier someone was playing the "what if" game and indicated that JC was driving to tie the score when the Kody take away for the TD occurred, which was true. However, to say that is to ignore all of chances that Highlands had up to that point to get a more firm control of the game. Highlands had one first half drive stopped by a holding call and another TD taken off the board with a holding call. These were the only two holds of the game. They also might have been the only times Highlands didn't score until the final punt of the game with essentially no time on the clock.

I don't know if this is the case or not with coach Mueller tonight, but I have seen coaches use their best receiver as a defensive weapon, taking the oppositions best defender totally out of the game by running him away from the play when the defense is in man-to-man.

 

Going into tonight, I thought this might happen. Welch is obviously a star, but he could not single handedly cover 2-3-4-5 very good receivers. Collinsworth may have been the MVP without catching a pass, by taking Welch out of the game.

The td thrown to Daniel Gold was set because Austin drew double coverage going towards the corner.

I'm just glad all the blurry eyed Highlands fans have awakened after the long trip and late night to discuss the game. It's about time you guys woke up.:banana:

Did JC have any holding penalties? I don't recall seeing any and that's either pretty good for a team that runs the ball that much or maybe there was a little home cooking.

I wasn't suprised at all that JC couldn't stop Highlands. I really doubted that they could.

 

I was more concerned (with good reason) that we would struggle with JC's offense.

I am trying to remember the two incompletions. One was on a deep ball that he overthrew somebody deep (maybe Welz). I don't remember the other.
