The officiating crew was out of Lexington, Kentucky. Probably closer to Ft T than Paintsville. Far stretch from the mountains.

 

Secondly, I had a good vantage point as well and did not have a problem with the call. It was so very close... could have gone one way or the other. (If you looked at the right pole of that goal post - it had a serious lean to the right. If anything, that would have been in Cody's favor as the ball sailed high over that leaning pole!) No doubt, Cody will nail it next time...

 

IMO, the officiating was very good. I did not like some of the calls... but that was because the calls were against the Birds! Call 'em as you see 'em.

Actually if you re-read my post, you'll realize I was talking about best team in 5A. And Louisville X didn't beat Elder. Trinity beat CINCY ST. X who lost to Colerain. Thanks for the info though.

HHS' football players are in better shape than most teams they've played, that wins them a ton of games.

No issues with the officiating, and I really don't feel that HHS fans are feeling like they were homered. As mentioned before, the crew was closer to HHS than to JC, so no issues here.

No. :irked: We never saw the DQ in Paintsville. We saw one up near 64, but figured that couldn't be the one. My one true regret on the night. Otherwise I had a great time and would have no matter the outcome. Great fight, JC.:thumb:

Yeah, the officiating was better than I've seen in past road trips. From our point of view that kick looked close, but trying to make that call with a sideline view is a lot different than making it from under the upright. I thought the crew did a pretty good job.

If big Kody wasn't player of the game, I don't know who was. He did it all and came up with the biggest play of the game. As Chris Berman says, "he went uh rumblin', bumblin', stumblin' all the way to the house."

Every win is a team effort; but I feel confident in suggesting that we officially dub this "The Kody Bowl." :thumb:

I'm just glad all the blurry eyed Highlands fans have awakened after the long trip and late night to discuss the game. It's about time you guys woke up.:banana:

I certainly wasnt complaining about the refs in my earlier comment. Sorry if I overgeneralized with the going to the mountains comment. Just thought that call was the wrong call. I also thought they called a pretty good game.

 

I also want to say that Johnson Central was very impressive. They seemed to have some very good speed, they hit the holes hard and they layed some licks on our boys as well. I remember Collinsworth coming down the sideline going full speed and #3 I think it was just flying over and blowing him up. That was a major collision.

 

I also found myself guessing who had the ball for JC as they did a good job of hiding the ball. This was definitely a major test for the Birds and everyone had tons of respect for that team and their fans.

 

The music before the game and during the huddles was great. I was a little foggy the entire night but did they play the song from Deliverance?

 

One other interesting tidbit. Did anyone notice that gas in Stanton was 2.49 and a few miles down the road it all of the sudden became $1.79? WOW !!!

Sure I have at times. But lets say it happened at Newport, I wouldn't say, "Boy, you can tell we're in NKY, thats what you get up here".

 

If any home cooking happens in a playoff game, I would think it would have to be an unusual and random thing. They bring in refs from other regions to eliminate this, but its always possible to get a guy from Berea with Floyd Co ties, etc. So I guess it could happen, but it sure as heck isn't something that is confined to one geographic area.

 

I just got my mountain hackles up a little bit, thats all.

 

Earlier someone was playing the "what if" game and indicated that JC was driving to tie the score when the Kody take away for the TD occurred, which was true. However, to say that is to ignore all of chances that Highlands had up to that point to get a more firm control of the game. Highlands had one first half drive stopped by a holding call and another TD taken off the board with a holding call. These were the only two holds of the game. They also might have been the only times Highlands didn't score until the final punt of the game with essentially no time on the clock.

 

I think that was me. At that point in the game JC was moving the ball pretty well on the ground and matching HHS punch for punch. They had been having some red zone problems earlier though, so for me to suggest a score was a foregone conclusion was taking some liberties.

 

Either way, the takeaway and return for the touchdown was a huge turnaround.

Highlands made JC work very hard for their yards and scores. Nothing easy given to the Eagles, so forgive me if I disagree with your statement that the Eagles could score at will.

I agree. In the Cov Cath game, JC racked up 680 yards and 49 points. That's scoring at will. Last night, however, the Birds held JC to 351 yards and 21 points.

I probably took it the wrong way, gryche11. I don't like it when mountain folks complain about "the golden triangle" and allege all kinds of things and I didn't like the generalization you made either against us hillbillys.

Depends who you ask. I just watched the game and there were multiple times the music was playing during the field of play. Isn't against some kind of KSHAA rule.:madman: Noisemakers,horns and such are okay with me. But when the music is set on 10 during the kickoffs, that's a little extreme. By the way, Rosenhagan's return play was a forced fumble strip by him and it was only fitting that he take it to the house.:thumb:

Given the turn of events last night, I wonder what a Belfry/HHS matchup would be like? I think it would be a lot of fun, although obviously HHS would be the favorite.
