EXACTLY!

 

I think most reasonable people would say that Highlands in not as good a team without Mitchell and would have lost the Bell game without him. I know you can provide stats for every player on the team, but those stats were not achieved against the better teams on the schedule. Dale has done a masterful job of convincing everybody in Ft. Thomas that he has 6 stud backs. He has one. And that will probably be exposed Saturday if they play.

I just got back from Highlands and the rumours are flying. There were 2 lawyers in our group who said that the appeals judge who ruled against Mitchell today was from Boyle land. There are 2 Northern Ky appeals judges and it wasn't one of them. i can't believe Smith would stoop so low. Go Birds :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Guru has a knack for being right about these things and when I read the rule, I come to the same conclusion. But, this just does not pass the smell test.

 

Highland's coach has to take the blame for this situation. Perhaps he didn't have the confidence that he could win without Mitchell. Somehow, teams like HHS find a way to win and HHS would have stood a good chance to be in the finals even if Mitchell had not played all year. From the posts I've seen, HHS has a stable of backs and I'm sure one or more would have risen to the task.

 

I just hope this doesn't prove to be a distraction to either of the finalists. Right now the best way to get over the bad feelings, confusion and frustration is to have both Boyle and HHS put on a hard fought and competitive football game.

 

Bell fans, I encourage you to not play the "What if" game. You have an excellent team that is title worthy. Although I don't agree with the grain of sand analogy, I do agree that it is difficult to say what would have happened if Mitchell had not played. Bell could have won big or someone for HHS may have played in the "zone."

Yes, they do. And I, for one, agree with the transfer rules. There are ways that the rules can be transcended in legitimate cases, and this obviously wasn't one.

I think letting Bell play in the finals would be an acceptable answer. That may not be the actual outcome, but aren't you still rewarding Highlands by letting them play in the championship even they used an inelible player to get there?

If they had used an ineligible pllayer. But at no time did Mitchell play when his legal status was "ineligible." The courts said he was eligible at the time he played the games and that's the way it should stand.

Yes, even though a small amount were hurt a larger amount was hurt when they got beat by an ineligible player.

The KHSAA gave fair warning early in the season. Take the blame to the coaches or parents or school but the KHSAA is only doing their job to protect the integrity of the sport by not allowing illegal transfers.

But Bell was Regional Champs as to Cov Cath was only second place In there district.

 

But if we are playing what if, Cov Cath would have been regional champs via the forfeit, just like Bell. And they would have just as legitimate claim as Bell for a shot at the championship game.

I'd like to agree with this, I certainly don't think Highlands 'cheated' by using a player they thought to be elligible, but you can't judge intent. I think that the Highlands has to forfeit.

....Bring in Judge Judy, either way he is still ineligable, and that's the bottom line.

I cannot see how Highlands should be allowed to play Saturday. If this occurred 4 weeks ago then Highlands would be 0-10 and out of playoff contention. But now that it is 4 weeks later it is okay and people are supposed to just accept it. I for one would love to postpone the game one more week and let Cov. Catholic and Bell County duke it out and then give them a week to prepare for Boyle. I realize that this will never happen because of rules but it is my opinion.

 

I honestly thought with the way both teams were playing that Boyle would win the game against Highlands with Mitchell. I hate it for Boyle because if they win Saturday others in the state will consider it tainted. It wouldn't be a great way to win your 6th straight title if it were to happen.
