Obama proposes minimum wage hike to $9.55 by 2011

Not ignoring anything. Just feel like "most" Americans and believe it or not, I have that right. BTW...Having a huge victory party on Nov. 5th if you would like to attend.

I know you aren't talking baseball in the P&R forum...:D

To be fair, you haven't addressed a single idea in this thread. You said you were happy that Obama is part of the decision-making process, but you haven't replied to the widespread assertion that many of his economic policies would cause problems for the economy.

Until you (and other Obama supporters) address the issues, they will be accused of supporting him for reasons that are not issue-based.

Nor would I expect him to, of the Obama supporters I've spoke to at school or just whenever the subject comes up very very few give any reasons as to why.

All they say is change, and that they think he'll bring energy. Hardly any that I've spoke to have any idea what change he'll bring or how it will benefit, or in many cases hurt them. As for energy, I often joke that we'll just start giving McCain red bulls for breakfast every day if they feel he doesn't have enough energy. Such a joke, the guy is running for President, not Captain of the Cheerleading squad.:madman:

I expected to see more Obama supporters defending this wage increase?

If it can be done, then great. I am in no postion to determine if it would work, or not. Kinda like most of us on here. However, when it comes to the work force and the economy, I do feel better knowing that Obama will be part of the decision making.

The scary part is that so many young voters don't have a clue what his proposals will do to the economy. They just think 'Great, I will make more money'. Wrong. Fewer jobs will be available and if they do keep their job or find one, they will quickly learn that nearly everything will cost more to offset the increased payroll costs. Employees will be asked to do more as the business cannot afford to hire more help.

Do you believe that increasing the minimum wage by 45% will increase jobs (as he has promised)? Please explain how. The rest of us have explained why we believe it will be harmful, but you are putting blind faith in someone who has no track record to bank on. It is faulty logic.

I agree, it is your right, but you should at least have a clue as to why something will or will not work. Blind faith in any human can be just plain dangerous.

But since the Obama platform has been to tie McCain to Bush, ... explain how Obama only voted against 1 Bush budget and for all the others since he has been there. Explain which policies that McCain has supported of Bush which had a negative impact on our economy? Just curious if you truly understand why you believe Obama is the best choice or if it is like too many Americans just a change for the sake of change. Heck, I can change out of dirty clothes, but if I just put on more filthy clothes, what good did it do?

This is not a personal attack, just a few sincere questions to help me understand why Obama would be so great for our country? Help me understand.

This is only an increase of roughly $300 more per month. That isn't enough IMO to alter the entire economic status of our already diminishing economy from the owners of these corporations. A nice gesture for the young but a thanks but NO THANKS should be in order.

I am an employer. If the minimum wage is increased the end result is that most all workers end up with an increase somewhere along the line.

When that happens, I will merely pass along the increase, plus a little for good measure, to my clients. Since most every employer will do the same, the result will be a net loss in purchasing power for those receiving the "increase". Obama apparently doesn't understand this but, of course, he has never been an employer (or much else if the truth be told).

I think your finger might have hit the three on the keyboard instead of the five...

Approximate work month is 22 working days. $2.95 increase times an 8 hour shift is "roughly" $519 additional gross income.

I agree, if you can afford to stay open. :thumb:

As a college student I searched for 4 months trying to find a job and couldnt, this def. wouldnt make it any easier on me. Plus, with my father owning a small business and myself intending to own it when he retires, I just dont see what good this does. I may be young, but I feel I am well educated about politics and the economy, and this has FAILURE written all over it.

You may be young, but you're wise beyond your years. You have a very good grip on reality. :thumb:

$7.25 an hour for 40 hour work week X 4 = $1,160

$9.50 an hour for 40 hour work week X 4 = $1,520

Additional Income of $360.00

I think Gunner was using the spread between the old minimum wage of 6.55 instead of the current 7.25. Either way you look at it, it's not good.

Clearly a product of sound parenting.

Raise the Minimum Wage to $9.50 an Hour by 2011: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that people who work full time should not live in poverty. Even though the minimum wage will rise to $7.25 an hour by 2009, the minimum wage's real purchasing power will still be below what it was in 1968. As president, Obama will further raise the minimum wage to $9.50 an hour by 2011, index it to inflation and increase the Earned Income Tax Credit to make sure that full-time workers can earn a living wage that allows them to raise their families and pay for basic needs such as food, transportation, and housing - things so many people take for granted.

How about all individuals prepare theirselves so they have marketable skills to earn even more? $10 an hour with no overtime is only $20,800. To a student out of high school they may seem like a lot, but if that person marries and starts a family in a year or two, then it doesn't look like much. They can get by, but it would be tough.

Marketable skills will make their life better.
