October 28, 200817 yr Here is the danger in jacking this up so much so fast. For every fulltime worker in the USA, it will cost the employer $6,000 + additional. The price of fast food, groceries, gas, etc. will all be impacted by this. A 46% hike in minimum wage will hurt summer workers as well as companies who use them will be forced to get by with fewer. Let's say a mom and pop grocery store has 5 employees. That is $30,000+ per year. How many more people will they be able to hire? Will they have to lay someone off? This will really bring out even more young voters for Obama as they don't have a clue as to the negative impact of this potential hike. Not only will it increase entry level employees, but others will have raise their wages as well to keep good employees. This will NOT create new jobs, it will slow down economic growth and eliminate jobs. However, politically, this is a very smart move on Obama's part. He is 'shoring up' the young voters with this proposal. And with Reid and Pelosi in charge on the hill, .... it will probably pass.

If a minimum wage job pays $9.00 and hour and you have been busting your chops at $11.00, are you going to be expecting a raise as that minimum wage job approaches/reaches $9.00? Raising minimum wage, raises cost of labor for businesses across the board. There is slowly and slowly in this country NO REASON to get an education and better yourself because in OBAMA's world, he is going to take care of you with higher wages for workers that are not skilled or simply let the government take care of you.

Nor do I feel I need them either. If someone is too sick to work more than a few days then they should attempt to make up those hours. Or head to the doctors office because they clearly have some serious health issues.
October 28, 200817 yr Author The more I think about it, this announcement, while appealing to his base of young voters, ... will not fly well with the more conservative 'on the fence' voters. The more I think about it, this could be a bad campaign move. With the lead he has in most polls, I am surprised that he is going this route. I am not surprised by his proposal, but by the timing of it. It is not a way to 'run out the clock with the lead' IMHO. For somebody who is supposed to understand the economy so well, this is a bad move IMHO.
