October 19, 200817 yr Due to my job, I deal with several plumbing companies. Sure their employees aren't making $250,000 per year, but the seveal of the owners easily make that or better. And they are the ones that create jobs for their employees. Like anything else though, increasing their taxes will only force them to pass the cost increases onto the consumer. More likely they will just hire fewer plumbers...

October 19, 200817 yr I'm against Obama for mainly two reasons. He's for abortion and for universal health care. Those two run together as some of the signs that the world is near the end of times. There's other reasons why I am for McCain too. I may get rediculed for this and I'm sorry for hijacking this thread if that's what I'm doing but that's my opinion. I do feel Obama will win though, which is not good for this country IMO.

Those aren't the only signs. And I'm not saying that it'll happen while either candidates are in office. There is just a lot of stuff happening in the world today that goes along with what the bible says about the end times. Another example is the Israel situation. I'm probably out of my league discussing this and defending my point... this has just been a hot topic that we've been discussing at church the past few weeks on Sunday nights. I'll have to do my research and defend my stance better.

But I know some large plumbing contractors with multiple employees who sure do as well as construction, etc. However, while I have several reasons I am voting for McCain, here are just a few. 1. I don't believe that raising taxes on anyone in our economy is a good idea 2. I have a problem with Obama wanting to raise capital gains taxes on small businesses, .. especially when it doesn't make sense. Businesses are taxed on profits, not capital gains. 3. I cannot believe that $900 billion in new spending can be paid for without raising taxes 4. I do not believe in the redistribution of wealth. 5. My father owns a small business and has worked his butt of for the past 45 years to be what he is. The idea that 35% of his income is not enough as the 2nd highest business tax rate in the world is frightening. I am also trying to build a small business, and the thoughts 6. Earmarks and pork barrel spending may only be a small portion of the federal budget, but pennies make dollars and I trust McCain who doesn't have a history of earmarks requests that Obama has in a very short time make me believe that based on their history 7. Obama is a very polished politician. Maybe as good as we have seen, at least since Bill Clinton. However, I don't believe that he is experienced enough as a leader to be president 8. Higher taxes on businesses, ... when many of them are already moving overseas to avoid paying US taxes as they already stand, will not do anything to curb even more businesses from taking parts or their entire operations overseas. Perot was right, ... we are hearing the giant sucking sound as a result of NAFTA and higher taxes will make the jetstream of these relocations of American jobs even faster. Look at the call centers throughout the USA alone. Most of the larger companies you call on their toll free lines are already using customer service representatives in India right now (Microsoft, etc). Much less the manufacturing jobs. It isn't just the lower wages they have to pay, it is the taxes they don't have pay overseas. 9. We live in a dangerous world and I truly believe that our military men and women would be better served by a man like McCain who understands that the generals in charge of our operations are in a better position to judge when moves can be made and not be given a hard target date. Sure, I want all the troops home with their families just like everyone else, but nearly every military person I have talked to say the same thing 'let us finish the job' In short, I don't think that Obama is the best choice for our country right now. IMHO, Roe vs Wade began the devaluing of human life, plain and simple. AS a society, we have gone downhill ever since. I don't believe it was the only thing, but if you look at the timeline of human events in our country, it sure didn't get any better. However, I don't believe that either candidate will make choices in the supreme court that will overturn that ruling. BUT, Obama's support for the federal Freedom of Choice act scares me to death. It would make nearly all abortions, at any time, legal with no state say in the matter and in some cases, a small percentage of abortions could be funded by tax payers dollars. However, I much like you, don't see where universal health care has anything to do with that issue.
October 19, 200817 yr My biggest reason for voting against Obama is that if our enemies or countries and leaders that I feel aren't for the good of our country want Obama to win I don't. There are others, but safety is my biggest reason.

I actually see slavery, Jim Crow, Segregation as the just as blatant a devaluing of Human life in our history. These were the LAWS of the land and they chose to see other humans as something less than themselves and treated them accordingly.
October 19, 200817 yr I don't make over 250k a year, so I won't be impacted. It's time to close the giant gap between the upper and middle class. People forget it's the middle class that drives this country. The runaway greed from the upper class ala wall street has lead us to this recession. What's wrong. Are you jealous of those who work hard, use their brains to make this money. The only reason for your stealing money through taxation is envy and hatred for people who earn. You feel as if your owed something, rather than trying to elevate yourself, you wish to tear down others. I do not earn 250,000 either, but because of not indexing for inflation, my wife and I come close to the minimim tax and we are teachers. More power to people to work hard and earn.
