I've had those types of classes....When I realized how difficult the tests would be, that made my study habits improve 10 fold....Midterm, I got a 65...Final, I got a 95. You think that was because of a curve?

 

Possibly. Professor's don't always tell you when they have given a curve, particularly on the final.

My major is accouting....It was Engineering, before I switched though....

I can only remember being in one class where tests were curved, it didn't affect my grade, and I didn't resent it. Though I've found the better policy to be requiring those who failed or did poorly to meet individually with the instructor to discuss better study habits, comprehension of the material, or be subject to additional exercises. I'm of the philosophy that if you don't want to pass, take another class. Analogizing back to topic, why is this not our economic policy?

All through college (no curves in HS), I had one instructor who graded on a curve. He was the statistics professor...

 

No kidding. I was his graduate assistant for a year; and I tutored experimental psychology and statistics. He graded all of his classes on a curve. It was his belief - not shared by everyone, obviously, that students were to compared to each other.

 

And a curve can be applied both ways. If everyone makes a 75 or above, true application of the (normal) curve will result in lower grades than those that would result without using it.

I don't resent it by any means, I just don't understand it. Why if you're a professor, do you give an exam that is too hard to pass? I feel if the professor is good at what he/she does, they will arrange for you to meet with them outside of class time to discuss ways to help you pass.

Did you all hear about Obama's plan for the NFL. The Bengals can still make the playoffs. Tennessee has been too successful, so from here on out, any wins that they get will be credited to Cincinnati. It's only fair to the Bengals fans. Not there fault Mike Brown can't run a successful franchise.

I read an interesting story from someone who is pro-life. They stated they were voting for Obama because statistics show that his stand and beliefs on abortion have actually led to less abortions than McCain's.

 

The only thing that will stop the abortion industry is replacing those rotten liberal supreme court justices that have distorted the constitution and made their own laws. And be assured that Obama will replace them with more rotten liberal judges that will continue to make law instead of interpreting our laws. If Obama is elected some of those old corpses will give it up probably and let their liberal buddy replace them, but if McCain is elected they probably be sticking feeding tubes in their belly and put them on oxygen and keep them hanging on until doomsday.

This is just about the only issue that would get me to vote for McCain. I'm real concerned about who Obama would nominate for the Supreme Court, but after hearing McCain's answer concerning this matter during the debate, I'm also concerned about who he would choose.
