I just got off the phone with Isler Dad, and he told me that Ice thought he had the first down made, but in retrospect he realizes that he shouldn't have gone down even if he did think he had made the first down. Ice understands and accepts the fact that being the QB you get the acolytes when you win, and the grief when you lose, and he is more than willing to say he screwed up.

I have known Ice for quite a few years now, and he is no quitter! The kid works his butt off year round and is one of only a few young men in NKy who has lettered and or started for his HS team in all three major sports (Football, Basketball and Baseball). In this day and age of single sports hero's you don't find many like Isler who is willing to put it on the line at whatever sport season it is!

Watch out HHS fans, as this game was blown out, but in 2001....HHS blew out CovCath in the first game also and trust me, Ice is already thinking about the 2001 victory against HHS in the playoffs.

Think 2001 CovCath fans! With a spirit, that will not die!

This post made me laugh out loud. Down 55-0 at half and already talking about beating them in the playoffs. Wow.

Now on to Highlands: fantastic job boys. I hate to start naming specific players because EVERY Highlands player did exceptionally well, but I have to point out several in my post.

On D I thought Blake Newman played the game of his life. Not only the interception for a td, but all the tackles he made. Ollie Head again had some fantastic hits. Pass coverage was exceptional by everyone. Kudos Bardo, Collinsworth, Head, Hogue and Buten. LBing crew again played superb. As did the D line. Rosenhagen, Dierig, Welz and Beck did a great job of not only shutting down the run, but keeping pressure on Isler all night.

On O, I thought our O line did a fantastic job. No disrespect intended to the CovCath O line, but tonight demonstrated which O line was the better one. Kudos to Coach Turner for again turning out another exceptional O line. Nick Martin did a great job filling in for Grubbs. I know that Nick would have rather played LBer in this game, but he answered the call and performed fantastically. There were some serious hits being layed by the O linemen. Dempsey, Schlosser, Combs and Bardgett (along with Martin tonight) are really coming together well. Not only were there big holes for the running backs, Guidugli had a whole lot of time to pass the ball. And pass the ball he did, doing so very well to Roller (who had several clutch receptions on drag routes) and to Collinsworth. Hogue also had a clutch 4th down reception for a first down. I think it was our third td, on which drive we had several penalties that kept setting us back, that really impressed me. But the O persevered and kept converting for first downs and eventually a td. In my opinion, it was the most impressive drive of the first half. Head and Fennell again showed why at almost every high school in the state they would be starting running backs.

Special teams were superb. On the couple of kickoffs that Rosenhagen didn't make the endzone, the coverage was exceptional. Nothing to say about punt coverage because it didn't happen. Because of CovCath's plan to punt the ball away from Collinsworth towards the sideline, there weren't many opportunities for the punt return squad to show its stuff last night. And of course our one kickoff return to start the game was exceptional. Just a great return by Collinsworth made possible by exceptional blocking by the kick return squad.

And I was very proud of the back ups in the second half. Great blocking and some exceptional running for Spencer Bankamper. I couldn't have been happier for any kid. With all the injuries that young man has persevered through during his football career, he deserved a night like last night, not only running the ball but on D also. Great job Spencer. And the entire D in the second half played well. Just a fantastic job boys. I know the coaches were on your tails after giving up a lot of points to the Dixie starters last week. You all responded extremely well to the coaching and played very well tonight.

Enjoy the victory, but quickly get focused on Hoptown. Go down there and lose to them and the sweetness of last night's victory will turn bitter fast.

To sum it all up, Highlands is a great team and all played extremely well.

That's way too few paragraphs!
I can see blaming the coach if there are blatant play calling mistakes, kids are not playing in their strongest positions, or poor clock management at the end of a game...but when the players are simply over matched by another team, come on... there is nothing a coach could have done last night to keep that game close unless he went out after the first quarter and recruited another team to take on the Birds. Highlands is just a much better team this year and blaming the coach is just the easy way out.

You are right, there isn't anything Dave Brossart could have done to keep the game close last night. The Colonels were not in the game from the moment they kicked it off. There was absolutely no change or different calls he could have made during the game. But it isn't all about those 48 minutes last night.

This Cov Cath team needed to be fully prepared and ready to take on Highlands last night. And they clearly were not. Brossart couldn't have changed much during the game, but he could have changed his approach in the weeks leading up to this game. He obviously didn't learn his lesson last year after getting shutout by Highlands.

The CCH players are not as talented as Highlands this year, but a well coached and well prepared Cov Cath team should never lose like this. And the one game of the year to be fully prepared for is ALWAYS Highlands. And the outcome of this game shows me that they were not ready to play.

Highlands district games

wins by 64, 55(by the 1's at least), and 61.

WOW!!!! They are pretty good.

Coach Ray left before the first half was even over.

The one of the greatest Colonel's, Lynn Ray, seemed to have lost all faith in the Colonels.

He had to get in bed early. I'm sure he had a very early tee time this morning.

I seem to recall making a remark to this affect following the Dixie game, and that HHS had ample running backs to get the job done. Alford and Bankemper also deserve mention for their efforts late in the game.

I agree, But also the Compton youngman runs the ball hard too.

To sum it all up, Highlands is a great team and all played extremely well.

You do your summaries your way and I'll do mine my way. :D

What was with calling a time out with 4 seconds left and down 61 - 0 just to call a hail mary pass which by the way ended up in GINO GUIDIUIlLI's hands.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

WOW!

...which by the way ended up in GINO GUIDIUIlLI's hands.
No, he blew the reception; as did his brother...and grandma. :D

Had it been a little more to the left, I would've had a shot at it. I had totally beat my man too. :irked:

WOW!

Some teams have a "Hail Mary" and one has a "Hail Terry!" I will take the "Hail Terry" any day...

It was very obvious who the better coached and better prepared team was. Highlands deserves all the praise they are getting, and I am not a Highlands fan at all. They had motivation and inspiration and it was lacking on the cch side of things. That being said, I don't think any of the kids out on that field for CovCath lost faith or gave up on their team or teammates at all through the whole game. It is what it is; a terrible loss..one of the worst in CovCath history as some have said on here. I don't think it needs to be said what the very apparent problem is [it isn't on the field] and I am sure it is being addressed. Good luck next week...you'll rebound fine, but no one says it is going to be easy.
