I know I may catch heck for this; but I really don't enjoy a blowout like last night--even against Cov Cath. And maybe even "especially" against Cov Cath.

 

Sure, it's a lot easier to take being on the winning side; but I miss the old "blood and guts, last minute victory" days. I guess I miss our old rival...the way they should be.

Shanked punts, dropped passes, fumbles, slides in the middle of the field short of the down marker on 3rd down, are all on the players...

 

I didn't get the impression that the punts were shanked as much as they were kicked specifically to the sidelines. It looked like they had no intention of letting Austin Collinsworth kill them on special teams. (After the kickoff return that killed them on special teams, that is.)

So you are saying that Coach Mueller wouldn't made a difference nor would Coach Ray or Coach R with the CovCath talent? Strange how in just two games against HHS in less than a year, the talent, heart and soul of CovCath has died where as it hadn't in 40 years!

As I said in my last point, yes coaching does and can make a difference, but not near enough of a difference to overcome what CCH's defense is allowing. I am sorry, not trying to be rude and I respect CCH, but the CCH defense clearly does not have the horses to keep up. It is not as if the coaches are calling the wrong defense every play? They just do not have the same level of talent to stop the opponent from moving the ball up and down the field at will. There is a reason Van Sant has so many tackles. He is one of the few that has the ability and talent to do so on that defense.

I agree they were aiming to kick the ball away from AC, but kicking to the sideline is one thing, a couple of punts that go less then 10 yards is another...

It seems that HHS' offensive line is really playing well. Also, HHS' special teams, which was thought to be a possible weak point heading into the season, has been a real plus so far.

 

If Conner ends up the year back at full strength, the backfield consisting of Conner, Crawford and Guidugli is going to be scary!

 

HHS' offense seems more diverse this season than last season, no?

 

After the Ryle game I seem to remember several of the HHS diehards on here talking this being the worst offensive line in a decade. How many state titles does it take before the fan base can trust thier coaching staff's ability to develop and coach up talent?:sssh:

I just got off the phone with Isler Dad, and he told me that Ice thought he had the first down made, but in retrospect he realizes that he shouldn't have gone down even if he did think he had made the first down. Ice understands and accepts the fact that being the QB you get the acolytes when you win, and the grief when you lose, and he is more than willing to say he screwed up.

 

I have known Ice for quite a few years now, and he is no quitter! The kid works his butt off year round and is one of only a few young men in NKy who has lettered and or started for his HS team in all three major sports (Football, Basketball and Baseball). In this day and age of single sports hero's you don't find many like Isler who is willing to put it on the line at whatever sport season it is!

 

Watch out HHS fans, as this game was blown out, but in 2001....HHS blew out CovCath in the first game also and trust me, Ice is already thinking about the 2001 victory against HHS in the playoffs.

 

Think 2001 CovCath fans! With a spirit, that will not die!

I can see blaming the coach if there are blatant play calling mistakes, kids are not playing in their strongest positions, or poor clock management at the end of a game...but when the players are simply over matched by another team, come on... there is nothing a coach could have done last night to keep that game close unless he went out after the first quarter and recruited another team to take on the Birds. Highlands is just a much better team this year and blaming the coach is just the easy way out.

When the current Cov. Cath. seniors were freshman I made the comment that this was one of the worst classes Cov. Cath has seen in a long time. I don't know if Brossart is a great coach or terrible coach, but I think he is lacking horses right now.

...4th and less than a yard for a first at the 45....and you PUNT????? Where is the faith in a 6'4" QB behind an "all-world" O-line??? Put that with the "other questionable play" and there's an indication to what is happening with the tream.

In that first game that Highlands won by 30, Cov. Cath. moved the ball all day long, but kept turning it over. Although the score was lopsided, anyone who watched the game knew the score wasn't an indication of how close the teams matched up. It was proven out in the second match up.

 

Although anything can happen in high school football, I am not sure anyone left last night thinking those two teams were closely matched.

I really dont see CovCath coming close to beating Highlands in the playoffs. Of anything it will be worse than it was last night because the Highlands players will be more motivated considering its the playoffs, and their last game agasint CovCath for the seniors. Sorry Oldguy but Covcath isnt anywhere near Highlands talent wise this year. They just dont have weapons like Highlands does, we are talking about a team that played last night without their 2 starting running backs, and if the starters played the whole game i think they could have beat CCH by 90. Imagine what Highlands will do to CovCath when they have Conner and Crawford to go along with Head and Fennel in the backfield. To even think that Covcath can beat Highlands after last night's showing is pretty embarssing.

Congratulations Birds! Nice team win against your local rivals. Now move forward to win out the rest of the season. You can look back to this victory in years to come. I'm very proud of all of you. Go Birds!:thumb:
