September 15, 200818 yr I thought Hartline looked pretty good. There were a few passes where he looked bad, but Brooks was quick to jump on the WR after those. Not sure what happened, but I'm certain it was the WR's fault by Coach Brooks' reaction. Lanxter looks like he has a lot of potential, but he's going to have to be more aggressive going after the ball if he wants to stay on the field. I enjoyed listening to Tim Couch. Thought he did a very nice job. And it was interesting to find out that Kelly Holcomb was doing the broadcast for MTSU as well. Tim said Kelly is staying with him and they played some golf this morning. Thought that was an interesting tidbit. Trevard Lindley is a very, very good DB. Our D-line looked great, but I'd like to see a little more pressure on the quarterback. Tony Dixon should be, at best, the 3rd string RB. Derrick Locke & Alfonso Smith are a great 1-2 punch, and Moncell Allen isn't too shabby either. He's a bowling ball. Derrick Locke is an absolute stud on special teams. His punt coverage is something that won't get much (or any) attention, but we sure noticed it. He did a great job, although it's a little weird seeing him wear #20. The announcer (Tom Hammond?) is horrible. He obviously doesn't look at who is in the backfield before the snap. Every time he'd say "And Dixon carries...", then correct himself once Locke or Smith got up from the bottom of the pile. Kentucky's WR need a lot of work. Dicky Lyons is the closest thing to a consistent threat at WR that we have right now, and I don't really trust him. He was solid last year with Burton & Stevie Johnson, but I don't have much faith in him as a #1 WR. That's all I've got for now. Rob Bromley is the UK network play-by-play man.

I can possibly see it if you have a kicker that is automatic, but that was just a stupid call by Brooks.If he runs the ball for one more play, MTSU has close to 90 yards to go in less than 30 seconds. I hope Brooks learned his lesson tonight. Kicking the field goal in this situation was the correct call, in my opinion. In addition to locking up the game if it was converted, it would give a kicker who had a horrendous night kicking the football, a little confidence going forward. It was the right call. To run to football would have shown a defeated attitude to the psyche of your team from this point forward in the season.

MTSU was much more likely to score off of a broken play than they were to have off of a hail mary against a set defense. There is no defense for a blocked kick. As for the hail mary, everything worked out just right for MTSU but they were simply too far away to score, had UK ran the ball they either would have gotten the first down or made MTSU attempted the pass from 25 yards farther away. Totally wrong call, even Rich admitted it.

I would be willing to bet that it is greater than the percentage of hail mary passes that get completed for touchdowns from 85+ yards. A blocked field goal is a broken play that you can't set your defense up for. We've already seen Michigan and VaTech lose because of them in high profile games the last couple of years. Rich even admitted his mistake.
September 15, 200818 yr Wasnt Michigan kicking for the win? I'm just saying that there is a much better chance of a team blocking a field goal than there is of completing and scoring on a hail mary from 85+ yards. Those were only 2 high profile cases the last couple of years.
