I would be willing to bet that it is greater than the percentage of hail mary passes that get completed for touchdowns from 85+ yards. A blocked field goal is a broken play that you can't set your defense up for. We've already seen Michigan and VaTech lose because of them in high profile games the last couple of years. Rich even admitted his mistake.

Exactly if teams preach special teams and focus on them there is no way a key field goal can be blocked that could cost you victory!

I thought Hartline looked much better, and I have been as critical of him as anyone. He seemed much more comfortable and made some pretty good plays. Up until this game I really hadn't seen many positives on his part. Again if Seiber is the best placekicker we have then the coaches a doing a poor job in that area. How many games does he have to lose for us for them to replace him. Yes I know we won this game, but in the last two years he has missed some pretty short kicks that have cost us. If he's winning the competition in practice then they need to bring in some more competition.

Bottom line - we hit our field goals and we win the game 32-14. That being said, its a miracle that we didn't lose with 4 missed FG's. College football is a lot like March Madness - just survive and advance. That's what the Cats did - albeit by 1 yard. :thumb:

Bad week of practice led to uneven performance. Still got the win, though. Great to be 3-0. Glad there is open date to get healed. Must come to play every week.

We can pick out a hundred negatives about this game but, bottom line is, UK won and thats what good teams do. They win even when they dont play well. Give credit where credit is due, Middle has a dang good football team!!

Kicking the field goal in this situation was the correct call, in my opinion.

 

In addition to locking up the game if it was converted, it would give a kicker who had a horrendous night kicking the football, a little confidence going forward.

 

It was the right call. To run to football would have shown a defeated attitude to the psyche of your team from this point forward in the season.

I completely disagree. MTSU was much more likely to score off of a broken play than they were to have off of a hail mary against a set defense. There is no defense for a blocked kick. As for the hail mary, everything worked out just right for MTSU but they were simply too far away to score, had UK ran the ball they either would have gotten the first down or made MTSU attempted the pass from 25 yards farther away. Totally wrong call, even Rich admitted it.

I finally got to watch all of the game yesterday from my dvr and all I can say is Whew! I am glad we got out of that one, I am glad that reciever from MTSU on the final play wasn't much taller!
