I look for this years game to be very similiar to the trend shown the past two years in this rivalry. A good, hard hitting, hard fought game between two schools with excellent football tradition. In the past, Raceland has been known as the "underdog" for this game but since the 06' and 07' Rams came out on top, I truely think the people and players in Raceland expect to win this game every year. I look for Raceland to have much more of a balanced attack, even more so then last year, and control the clock, with the running abilities of Denton and Carver. IMO this game will come down to who ever makes the fewest turnovers and who ever is in the best phsyical shape in the fourth quarter (conditioning is a HUGE factor in close games).

 

My prediction; The Class "A" Rams make it 3 years in a row against the Class "5A" Tomcats in a very tight game. Hope both teams make it out injury free and good luck to both sides.

Well, I'll offer my thoughts on the game, and as I just said in another thread, there is a 60% chance of PM thunderstorms for Friday night. So, I'll make this prediction, considering the air attack of the Rams, if the rain holds off, I'll take Raceland by a touchdown or more. If the rains come, I'll take Ashland in the ground and pound matchup by a touchdown. Special teams play has definitely tilted in the favor of the Rams in the past couple of seasons, and although they may not be that explosive in that area this season, wet weather negates that as well. I would suggest a rain dance if I were a Tomcat fan and the drought dance if I'm a Ram fan.

I think you would be really suprised Spindoc, as to how much Raceland has went away from the "air raid" offense they ran when Pettrey and Grizzle were there. They are much more of a ground and pound team this year then in years past. With Pettrey and Grizzle at QB Raceland was 95% shot gun, spread offense but last year they were under center in the I formation, one back, and even some wing T. I look for them to run the ball alot more this year due the the abilities of Denton and Carver. Not saying Boyles isnt a capable thrower because he is a very good QB with a accurate arm but I just think with their backs and O-Line running the ball is the strength of their offense. If it rains, Raceland will be just fine putting it on the ground all night, IMO.

I know Ashland has a lot back from last years team, but who is starting at what positions? Has anyone changed position or lost a position?

The Raceland/Ashland game has been a low scoring affair in most years since 1991, so I will pull the 1991 score out and use it for my prediction for 2008:

I think Raceland will be better this year then last year if not better then the 2006 team. I think Raceland will have one the most dangerous offenses in the state. They have two outstanding running backs with Denton and Carver! The special teams and defense will be really good as well...

Robby Logan (JR) OL/DL - has a great opportunity to be a D1 player. Robby is 6'4" around 265lbs and ... had the following lifts: Clean 300lbs, deadlift 525lbs, and bench 325lbs.
