Why wont the Rams have the Tomcats come and play at Ram Stadium?

 

Ashland's athletic director says that Raceland's facilities are inadequate for Tomcat fans. Russell seemed ok with the situation last year.

Yes, they have. Raceland never backs down from any team and regardless of score, they play hard until the end. Perhaps at one time, the Rams may have been underdogs coming into Putnam Stadium, but the tide has turned over the past couple of years. Until Ashland steps up and takes a stand to change things, Raceland will tighten their grip on this rivalry.

 

With all the skill and experience Raceland enjoys with this team, it’s going to be a tough year for the Tomcats to reverse the trend of the past two games between these two programs. Ashland showed signs of improvement during last Friday's scrimmage with Mason...it will take a continuation of that same focus and effort to make a game of it for the season opener.

 

No predictions for this game (yet)....Friday night can’t get here soon enough!

 

Well said Painter. The out come of this game used to be predictable, and now it is a really good game to watch. Raceland's first win against Ashland was in 1991, and since it was proven that Raceland could beat Ashland, this game took on a new look.

 

I always expect a good, hard fought game between these two schools and an amazing kick off to the season.

It is hard to say/predict when you don't have all the information. I mean, is Ashland's running back still on the team or not? That boy is good and can make a difference. His ability and skill gave the Rams all they could handle last year. Rumors from across the river say that he isn't playing ball but he isn't over there either. I have read in other threads that Tomcat fans don't even know his status. What is the deal?

He is on the team, I saw him at the MC game, but he was in the stands mostly, and not down with the team.

 

He is good, however there were some other good backs that made a showing against MC. So I'm not really sure how Carter would fit into Ashland's style of play this year. I don't think they have the speed on the line to get the blocking to the outside and second level to really use his attributes. I think they will be more of a pound it down your throat style. Just my opinion from what I saw. If some of what I heard about his antics in practice are true. I'm surprised Hart has allowed him to even remain on the team.

Carter is still on the team. He was on the sidelines for Friday's game against Mason but did not dress due to injury. I am 100% sure of this statement.

Most if not all football games are won on the line between famous college football broadcaster Keith Jackson's described "big ugly's".

I am certainly hoping not but from all reports that I have heard from Ashland then I am a afraid that Ashland may have the advantage.

 

I have made it a personal policy for the last two years not to make any predictions on any Raceland games, that policy/superstition or whatever has worked out pretty well so I will continue with it .

 

My both teams stay injury free and...........GO RAMS!!

 

I agree about the line. In both 2006 and 2007 the Rams defensive line stayed on the field holding the Tomcats from scoring. The scores were not blowout scores but because of the line our offense was able to make the play that has won these games.

 

Raceland is picked to loose in about every game they play.

 

 

Except this one - the Rams are ahead in the poll (56%) at this point.

 

I think that is fair. Ashland returns most of the starters from a 2-8 team. They will have to win some games to prove if they are better now. Raceland returns most of the starters from a much more successful team and is believed to be the best Raceland team ever!

 

I think the Tomcats could win - IF - they control the tempo of the game, keep their offense on the field for long, sustained drives capped with scores at the end. If not it will be a long night. Raceland will score fast and often if we don't keep the ball away from them. I'm not knocking our defense, they look pretty good. The question is: can the O-line do their part?

 

Like Painter, I will not make a prediction yet. I want to see if the O-line stays hungry - or if they're satisfied with themselves after Friday night. Coach had to drive them with whips to get them to play last week. Can they keep it going by themselves now that they've seen what its like, or not?

That subject really seems upset some people that are not a member of either team's fan base or school system . I won't comment any futher on that paticular subject.

Any Raceland team that takes the field and thinks this, will not be very successful. To be the best, you can never take the field and take your opponent lightly, especially whey you are playing a school that dwarfs you in size.

 

Raceland had better take the field and expect to play the toughest game of their lives, or they will be going home very disappointed and have two weeks to hear about it.

 

Raceland had better remember last season's games versus East Carter and West Carter. And then watch the second LCA game tape, then decide if they are good enough or not.

 

The key to being good is not making the same mistake twice.

 

The difference between being good and being great, is the little things.

I don't believe that. Kinda hard to think a team is the best ever when they have yet to play a down. Or beat East Carter. If they are as good as Greybeard's hype they wouldn't lose games they should win.

Nope, I wasn't referring to you at all TRR, I said ones that are not a member of either teams fan base I know that you are a Raceland fan. Besides, you know if I had a problem with you that I would just p/u the phone and tell you. :lol:

Those are very sound philosophical principles, Ram and I couldn’t agree more. However, the fact remains that Raceland returns many starters from a very successful team so it’s not difficult to recognize this is shaping up to be an incredibly special year for the Rams. Also a fact, Ashland suffered through a miserable season in 07 and lost one of its featured "go to" players to graduation. Lastly, Raceland beat the Cats with much of the same team returning this season. Any way you slice it, Raceland deserves to be favored in this match-up and it’s up to Ashland to play a near perfect game to hang with the Rams this Friday night.
