BTW, the poll has now grown to 59% in favor of Raceland.

 

New development, A group of Raceland parents have petitioned Coach Vanderhoof and the Raceland Admin. to forfiet the game this Friday and then just go on with the rest of the season, we have learned our sandbagging from Ashland's fine example.. (I was serious though on my concerns about Racelasnd in this one)

 

 

As for the poll, you know what they say about polls. They are useless and for conversation, the game is played on the field.:thumb:

So noone is going to say who Ashland has playing LB's and how fast they are? Its not like your holding some secret that the Raceland players and coaches don't know. I'm sure they've scouted you all plenty and have video of your scrimmages.

Does in anybody know how Coach Hart's mentality is? I'm sure he's wanting this win so bad he can taste it. If Ashland wins this game they are gonna have a good year, if not this may be a difficult year.:eek:

Would you like to rephrase this? I have been around football for a long time and I'm not sure any Coach at any level has a 'loser' or 'give up' mentality. Don't judge the entire season based on the outcome of a contest between 2 good teams.

This game doesnt mean much. Its not a district game. How can Ashland fans/parents not predict the score of the game. I dont even have a son playing football yet and I am still predicting Ashland to win. But thats my love for Ashland showing. Some fans may only have that if Ashland wins.

:thumb: I don't think that post was meant to say that coach Hart had a loser mentality rather that Ashland has been frustratred by Raceland in the last couple of years. I have never known any coach anywhere to have that mind set either. Should a coach have a loser mentality then he shouldn't be in coaching. I can promise that neither Vanderhoof or Hart have a "loser" mentality. These are two good, well coached football teams as well as good football programs, both will remain good no matter who wins this game.

I don't think I ever said loser or give up. I have had the pleasure of knowing Coach Hart for the last ten years, and it just just so happens he has taught me a great deal about the game. I also know Coach Hart wants this game a lot. But like anybody knows coming off a tough year like Ashland had the first game is a big game. The way a team plays early sets the tone for the whole year.

By looking at all the new facilities Raceland has on its campus it looks like they have a little bigger budget than Russell has now.

Yeah, & that's why Russell just spent all that money to put in Bermuda turf & Raceland has carpet strips in the corners of their end zones...Don't be fooled by that (LOL). The cultural arts center was built on grant money. Not sure about the gym, but it was long overdue. I'm pretty sure it was alot older than Russell's gym. Trust me, I can't wait until Raceland gets a makeover on the football field & track. The pressbox is a good start.

Remember, you were 2-8 last year and Raceland was reasonably sucessful. That being said, the Rams had to scramble to set up a long field goal to even win last year. Raceland is a 1A and you are 5A. This is a good competative game that helps both teams prepare for their district foes. Good luck and have a successful year.........hopefully after starting 0-1.:lol:

While we anxiously await Friday’s kickoff, take a look at a few statistics recorded by Ashland and Raceland over the previous two seasons. From 2006 to 2007:

 

Raceland 18 – 7 record with 783 Total Points (31 point avg.) & 447 Total Points Allowed (18 point avg.)

 

Ashland 11 – 11 record with 542 Total Points (25 point avg.) & 540 Total Points Allowed (25 point avg.)

 

As we already know, Raceland is undefeated against the Tomcats during this stretch. The combined score for both of these Ram victories is 44 to 36. Just as the seasonal averages of scoring puts Raceland ahead of Ashland by almost a touchdown, that same margin is what separates them when they go head to head.

 

Although it remains to be seen what the outcome will be for this particular 2008 match-up, Raceland wins if you consider the statistical data. I realize the game is won on the field and not on paper, but when you consider the recent records of these two programs along with the talent that Raceland has returning, the Rams are a solid favorite to win this upcoming ballgame.

 

What does all this really mean?......that it’s a rainy day and I have way too much time on my hands.
