Pulley Dismissed From Team

Featured Replies

I seriously think Randall Cobb should get some reps at QB in practice. I know he will be a solid WR but we should at least try him at QB. What do we have to lose?

Not that it was ever closed but this sure leaves the door open even more for a big-time QB to come in next year.

Agreed. Newton and the kid from TX could start immediately.

Once Brooks had all the information (which none of us probably have), he made the decision he felt was in the best interest of the program. Noone can say he did not give Pulley his chances, but I hope that Curtis takes this as a sign that changes need to be made. He has too much potential to not do something positive somewhere. I wish him the best, but I do support Brooks in his decision.

You're kidding, right? There are several people on here who know more about the UK program than Rich Brooks. At least, that's the impression I get...

Seriously, imagine a coach taking a little time to make a decision like this rather than kicking him off the team immediately based on hearsay, news reports and message boards. I think Brooks did the right thing. He took some extra time to assess the situation, probably gather information from Pulley along with others and make a decision based on the facts...and not an emotionally charged decision.

Kudos to Brooks...he's done a solid job with the program since he's been here and he's done a good job with discipline, IMO.

Personally, I'm glad the Curtis Pulley "era" is over. There were always questions, rumors and other things swirling around him and I've never got the idea from reports that he showed the work ethic and attitude to be the QB and team leader.

I guess since he actually kicked Pulley off the team, the complaint from "little brother" will now be that he should have done it sooner...;)

If that were said, the response would have been, "what more facts do you need?"

This all came out last Thursday, I believe it was. We are talking a matter of 4-5 days to hand down the ultimate punishment, not 4-5 months. I would say it was handled about as well as it could have been given who the player was.

Imagine someone making a post like this in the previous Pulley thread...

Maybe we should just let it play out and see what Rich Brooks actually does, before we render a verdict.
Trust me Scribe, there is more! Pulley actually deserves to be dismissed!

To be honest, if you Tiger or Westsider tells me that, that's all I need to know. :thumb:

(This is not sarcasm. You guys have always been honest in your appraisal of Pulley and supported him in the past. If you say this, that's good enough for me.)

I don't think Murray's strict coach would take him, but he is from Hoptown which is only an hour to MSU. Plus, he would be a draw which MSU could use!

What a big letdown! He was so talented and had so much potential. I always wished they would have gone after a high character kid in their own backyard like Justin Burke. I'm glad Brooks made the decision to get rid of somebody that didn't have the desire to do the right thing. I was pulling hard for Pulley as a UK fan and as a kid in general. You can only stand by people so long.

I would agree with you but Griffin is 1 poor season away from being out the door. Any help (and Pulley would be a big upgrade) might be utilized. I have nothing to back that up with, just a hunch.

I talked with somebody who was at the press conference today, I knew they was there and phoned them. They said that the decision was made right before media day began and he told his players after they took the team picture.

My thought and their thought to was what could grades factor into this? Weren't they released yesterday?

UK did, unsuccessfully, go after Justin Burke from Lexington Catholic.

So it takes Brooks months to find out one of his star players was arrested (only after a second arrest does he get wind that there might be a problem) and then some more time on top of that to get the details (but not before public statements that Pulley might still start?)

Doesn't sound like Brooks has a very firm grasp on the reins, there.

Curtis Pulley is one of UKs star players? He wasnt even in the lead for the QB spot before all these incidents.

I think this is a little historical revisionism. The QB spot was left open to competition after the spring ball. Now, yes most posters on BGP said they thought it would end up being Hartline, but I didn't hear anything about a lead for the position come from the coaching staff.

I thought for sure Joker Phillips came out about a month ago in a Herlad-Leader article in which he publicly called out Pulley's leadership and pretty much said he was not the leader for the QB spot?

If that is true than mia culpa. I wasn't aware of it.
